When Gerry Turner took on the challenge of becoming the first-ever Golden Bachelor, the dating show franchise reached the highest viewership numbers in years. Now, seasoned singles are getting another spin-off with The Golden Bachelorette.
Now, Joan Vassos, a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator, will ask the iconic question: Will you accept this rose? Viewers were first introduced to Joan in Gerry’s season of The Golden Bachelor, where she had to leave early to help her daughter post-pregnancy. Watch her get a second chance at love on The Golden Bachelorette, which is now streaming on Hulu.
Before her stint on the Golden Bachelor, Joan was happily married for 32 years. Sadly, she lost her husband, John Vassos, to pancreatic cancer in early 2021 when he was just 59 years old. Now, she has the opportunity to find love again, with an impressive lineup of 24 distinguished men between the ages of 57 and 68.
Joan’s decision to accept the Golden Bachelorette role was inspired by her late husband. She told ET, “I feel like he maybe had a little hand in me actually getting here, honestly.” She continued, “He told me right before he passed away, ‘You need to go out and find somebody else. You were the best wife in the world and I want you to be happy.’ He gave me this wonderful gift before he died, and he said go and do something, and so here I am.”
