Sloane Stephens (USA) vs. Olivia Gadecki (AUS)

Former world No. 3 Sloane Stephens proved far too strong for Olivia Gadecki, defeating the Australian wildcard 6-3, 6-1 in just 56 minutes on John Cain Arena.

Stephens, a former US Open champion, wins her way into the second round of Australia’s major tournament for the first time since 2019, where she’ll play the winner of 14th seed Daria Kasatkina and Peyton Stearns.

Gadecki made a strong start winning the opening two games of the match, but from there her more experienced American opponent took complete control.
