Israel said on Wednesday that certain “findings” brought from the Gaza Strip do not come from one of the last two dead hostages, as the two sides continue to implement a shaky ceasefire deal.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that it had reached the conclusion on the basis of forensic analysis.
The relatives of two hostages who were killed and whose bodies are still in the Gaza Strip have been informed.

The Islamist Palestinian group Hamas said on Tuesday that the remains of one of the last two hostages held in Gaza had been found. The International Committee of the Red Cross then passed these on to the Israeli military.
This is not the first case that false hostage remains have been handed over. Previous such incidents caused outrage in Israel.
In addition to the remains of an Israeli hostage, the body of a Thai man abducted from Israel is also said to still be in the Gaza Strip.
A US-backed ceasefire deal has been in place since October 10, bringing a halt to the fighting after two years of war.
