Police in Germany have been left stumped after a passer-by found 35 human teeth on a pavement in Giessen, a town north of Frankfurt.
A police patrol was sent to secure the teeth, most of which were intact while some were in fragments. The background to Sunday’s find is entirely unclear, police said.
Questioning of local residents and inquiries at a nearby dental practice have yielded no leads, the police said in a statement issued on Friday.

A forensic medicine institute had determined beyond doubt that the teeth were indeed human.
Police said they have so far not been able to link the find to a criminal act. Criminal investigators have launched an inquiry and are asking for information on the possible origin of the teeth.
