Midstate man gets closure on his late cousin’s cause of death during Vietnam War

(WHTM) — A Midstate man who always wondered what happened to his cousin shot down over Vietnam now has some closure.

David Christian, a skyhawk pilot during the Vietnam War, was shot down near the Vietnamese Coast in 1965 and was originally considered killed in action. His younger Midstate cousin, Larry Christian, thought David survived being shot down.

Christian went on a quest for documents proving what really happened. Last week, the Navy denied his request for certain witness statements. However, Christian claims he has enough information from previous documents to conclude his cousin did survive being shot down — but broke his leg and was killed by Vietnamese troops that same day.
