At least 51 people have been killed by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since dawn, 27 of them in Gaza City, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Saturday.
The Israeli military reported that military operations against “local terrorist organizations” had continued across the coastal region, with the offensive in Gaza City extended.
Israeli forces had uncovered numerous weapons, among them anti-tank weapons, rockets and explosives, the Israeli military report said.
“A number of terrorists who posed a threat to the troops were eliminated,” the report said. It added that the Israeli air force had attacked around 120 targets, including military facilities and underground terrorist infrastructure.
According to the Hamas-controlled health authorities in the region, more than 65,900 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the current war in October 2023.
According to WAFA, the majority were women and children. “This toll remains incomplete, as many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and rescue crews,” the WAFA report says.
The war erupted after Hamas and other organizations conducted a massacre in Israel of around 1,200 people and abducted more than 250 hostages.
