{"id":1139,"date":"2023-09-28T19:24:52","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T23:24:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/sport\/rodin-cars-who-promised-female-driver-loses-bid-to-join-f1\/28\/09\/2023\/"},"modified":"2023-09-28T19:24:52","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T23:24:52","slug":"rodin-cars-who-promised-female-driver-loses-bid-to-join-f1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/sport\/rodin-cars-who-promised-female-driver-loses-bid-to-join-f1\/28\/09\/2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Rodin Cars, who promised female driver, loses bid to join F1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>New Zealand-based Rodin Cars said on Thursday its bid to enter Formula One as an 11th team and with a female driver had been rejected and it expected Andretti Global to be the only successful applicant.<\/p>\n<p>Rodin&#8217;s Australian founder David Dicker said in a statement the company had proposed building the cars in New Zealand, a move that would have made it the only manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p>It had also committed to reserving one seat for a female driver.<\/p>\n<p>Britain&#8217;s Jamie Chadwick, the three times winner of the now-folded all-female W Series, has tested for Rodin and would have been in line for the role if available.<\/p>\n<p>Formula One has not had a female racer since 1976 and Chadwick, who has been racing in the U.S.-based IndyCar feeder series Indy NXT, lacks a super-licence.<\/p>\n<p>Aston Martin&#8217;s Jess Hawkins became the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/38494496\/jess-hawkins-becomes-first-woman-drive-modern-f1-car-five-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">first woman in nearly five years<\/a> to drive a contemporary Formula One car at an event in Budapest last week.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline inline-photo full\">\n<figure><picture><source data-srcset=\"https:\/\/a1.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F0928%2Fr1230847_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=570&amp;format=jpg, https:\/\/a1.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F0928%2Fr1230847_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=1140&amp;cquality=40&amp;format=jpg 2x\" media=\"(min-width: 376px)\"><source data-srcset=\"https:\/\/a1.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F0928%2Fr1230847_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=375, https:\/\/a1.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F0928%2Fr1230847_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=750&amp;cquality=40&amp;format=jpg 2x\" media=\"(max-width: 375px)\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"photoCaption\">Rodin Carlin run teams in Formula Four, Formula Three and Formula Two.\u00a0<cite>Eric Alonso &#8211; Formula 1\/Formula 1 via Getty Images<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>&#8220;Rodin Cars participated in the recent FIA process aimed at gaining entry into the prestigious Formula One World Championship,&#8221; said Dicker.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, our bid was not successful.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Recent information suggests, as anticipated from the outset of this process, that the only successful applicant will be Andretti Global.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dicker said Rodin had also &#8220;the opportunity of discussions for a Ferrari collaboration on the Rodin F1 car&#8221; and the company was &#8220;financially equipped to fully fund the Formula One program from the personal wealth of our founder.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rodin is the majority shareholder in established feeder series operator Carlin, who run teams in Formula Four, Formula Three and Formula Two.<\/p>\n<p>Andretti Global is run by American former F1 racer Michael Andretti, son of the 1978 world champion Mario, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/35385255\/andretti-cadillac-team-bid-all-american-f1-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">plans to enter Formula One<\/a> in partnership with General Motors&#8217; brand Cadillac and with at least one U.S. driver.<\/p>\n<p>The governing FIA started a formal application process in February, seeking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/35370933\/f1-ready-expand-more-10-teams-president-mohammed-ben-sulayem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">identify one or more new teams<\/a> interested in joining in 2025, 2026 or 2027.
