For decades, celebrations have been the norm in accompanying touchdowns. It goes back all the way to the 1960s with Homer Jones and his touchdown spike.<\/p>\n<p>Touchdown celebrations have become a choreographed production for some teams. Think back to the 1980s when <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"62\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/commanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Washington<\/a>\u2019s \u201cFun Bunch\u201d made enemies after its group of players participated in a jumping high-five after a score. And think recently when the <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"57\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a> did their best New Edition and *NSYNC impersonations, or when the <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"48\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/vikings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Minnesota Vikings<\/a> decided to play a game of Duck, Duck, Goose in the end zone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/5091211\/2023\/11\/29\/nfl-touchdown-celebrations-most-memorable\/\" class=\"go-deeper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"go-deeper\">\n<div class=\"go-deeper-img\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"go-deeper-label\">GO DEEPER<\/p>\n<p class=\"go-deeper-title\">The NFL&#8217;s most memorable TD celebrations: Deion Sanders&#8217; high-step, the Ickey Shuffle, more<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 2023 NFL season has had its share of memorable touchdown celebrations. Each team has had its moment. Some moments, however, have been bigger than others. <em>The Athletic<\/em>\u2019s team of Jason Jones, Matt Barrows and Vic Tafur got together to reminisce over the season and discuss the best touchdown celebration for each team.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2>AFC East<\/h2>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"34\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Buffalo Bills<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cStone Cold\u201d Steve Austin would be proud of Stefon Diggs\u2019 beer celebration during Week 4 as the Bills faced <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"47\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/dolphins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Miami<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After scoring against the Dolphins, Diggs ran to the fans, grabbed a couple of beers and smashed them together. (Timothy T Ludwig \/ Getty Images)<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Miami Dolphins<\/h3>\n<p>The Dolphins could be the subject of a celebration piece by themselves. <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"9f4ZZkppMneXJAFj\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/tyreek-hill-9f4ZZkppMneXJAFj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tyreek Hill<\/a>, <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"SyyCbe0kxMbPY4Ct\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/jaylen-waddle-SyyCbe0kxMbPY4Ct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jaylen Waddle<\/a>, <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"PS8eSycQR4WDFnPl\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/raheem-mostert-PS8eSycQR4WDFnPl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Raheem Mostert<\/a> and the crew have provided several memorable celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>During a Week 6 game against <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"35\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Carolina<\/a>, Hill\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4ngSvLWFgI0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">41-yard touchdown reception<\/a>, coupled with the use of a photographer\u2019s phone, resulted in a backflip, as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/LpbXrSdk6q0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">unique selfie<\/a>. It also ended up with the photographer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kfitzsports\/status\/1729689511095877762\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">being disciplined<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"49\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/patriots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New England Patriots<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Patriots haven\u2019t had a lot of opportunities to celebrate on offense this season. After one of their biggest touchdowns of 2023 \u2014 <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"29pBYCVUQANmMIMN\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/mike-gesicki-29pBYCVUQANmMIMN\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mike Gesicki<\/a>\u2019s game-winning touchdown catch late to beat Buffalo in Week 7 \u2014 multiple players <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFL\/status\/1716182532193239109\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">did the Griddy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While some executed the dance, others still are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/patriots-mac-jones-roasted-griddy-touchdown-celebration-win-over-bills-1837013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">unsure exactly what Mac Jones was doing<\/a>. On top of that, former Patriot Rob Gronkowski, a fun-loving player in his day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/boston\/news\/rob-gronkowski-did-not-like-patriots-celebration-mike-gesicki-mac-jones-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">criticized the team<\/a> for being so happy about a regular-season win.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"52\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New York Jets<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The end zone and the Jets haven\u2019t been acquainted most of the season, but their most dramatic touchdown celebration might have come Week 1 against Buffalo.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"SA03ZoErNnMl31pF\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/xavier-gipson-SA03ZoErNnMl31pF\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Xavier Gipson<\/a> used a 65-yard punt return to beat the Bills in overtime. He was mobbed by teammates and overcome with emotion for the win on the same night <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"jcxErAcw3SOmBLdo\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/aaron-rodgers-jcxErAcw3SOmBLdo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Aaron Rodgers<\/a> left the game with an Achilles injury.<\/p>\n<h2>AFC West<\/h2>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"40\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/broncos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Denver Broncos<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>This team does a lot of ball spinning and chest bumping. Two years ago, <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"jy7PvJsPl57HQPF0\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/jerry-jeudy-jy7PvJsPl57HQPF0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jerry Jeudy<\/a> was even fined for his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GeorgeStoia\/status\/1457062940432125953\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">bow-and-arrow celebration<\/a> against Washington and thought about doing it again but <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RyanGreeneDNVR\/status\/1457414474172755968\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">had second thoughts<\/a> in a game against <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"39\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/cowboys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dallas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, he just <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Broncos\/status\/1718738108756176898\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">rides his horse<\/a> around every time he scores.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"46\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/chiefs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>There hasn\u2019t been a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeadingNFL\/status\/927313824100712448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">potato sack race like the one in 2017<\/a> or anything that cool this season. And no, we aren\u2019t picking <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SprintsSc\/status\/1716210512416100475\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Taylor Swift\u2019s touchdown dance with Patrick Mahomes\u2019 wife, Brittany<\/a>, from the Week 7 win over the <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"56\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/chargers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Chargers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"jJGYtD0ofLApsx14\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/jerick-mckinnon-jJGYtD0ofLApsx14\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jerick McKinnon<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BMMG16\/status\/1734002244830245225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">got a lift in<\/a> after a touchdown during Week 14 against Buffalo. The bench-press celebration capped what was McKinnon\u2019s first rushing touchdown of the season.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"53\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/raiders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Las Vegas Raiders<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>It took the Christmas spirit \u2014 or, maybe, the Grinch spirit \u2014 to overtake the Raiders after a season of boring touchdown celebrations. <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"Za1YStEvz8XxBWMQ\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/jack-jones-Za1YStEvz8XxBWMQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jack Jones<\/a> picked off <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"WWwiw0IQD5ozgrHf\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/patrick-mahomes-WWwiw0IQD5ozgrHf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Patrick Mahomes<\/a> on Christmas morning, and after staring down the Kansas City quarterback while running in for a touchdown, he offered the ball to a young Chiefs fan in the front row of the stands. When the excited fan reached for the ball, Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFL_Memes\/status\/1739364542142886058\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pulled it back and merrily scampered off<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Los Angeles Chargers<\/h3>\n<p>There haven\u2019t been a lot of reasons to choreograph for a Chargers team sitting at the bottom of the AFC West. <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"eigOBILgncsGgG1X\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/gerald-everett-eigOBILgncsGgG1X\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Gerald Everett<\/a>, however, did find a time to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFL\/status\/1728986842077532382\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">do his best Ray Lewis impersonation<\/a> during Week 12 \u2014 against <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"33\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/ravens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Baltimore<\/a>, of all teams.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"dvB3Y1Q3OYzjd6Wm\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/austin-ekeler-dvB3Y1Q3OYzjd6Wm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Austin Ekeler<\/a> actually celebrated a first down with his team trailing Las Vegas by 42 points. But that doesn\u2019t count.<\/p>\n<h2>AFC North<\/h2>\n<h3>Baltimore Ravens<\/h3>\n<p>The Ravens do a lot because they\u2019re actually throwing talented receivers the ball this season.<\/p>\n<p>There was <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"ZUbXCQOLetVIPfzO\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/odell-beckham-jr-ZUbXCQOLetVIPfzO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Odell Beckham Jr.<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ravens\/status\/1733927807439241711\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Michael Jackson tribute<\/a>, but top honors should go to Zay Flowers \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/9KsR5DwtILk?si=bNRXAu3fMqtMbWP5&amp;t=14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">did two in one game<\/a>. We didn\u2019t hate the bouquet throw, but we definitely liked the penalty kick more.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"37\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/bengals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"sKnyZX3WQEWatJVj\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/joe-mixon-sKnyZX3WQEWatJVj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Joe Mixon<\/a> proved that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFL\/status\/1731855055693947292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">there are some Dillon Brooks fans<\/a> out there.<\/p>\n<p>Against <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"45\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/jaguars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jacksonville<\/a> in Week 13, Mixon scored on a 6-yard run to tie the game 7-7. That score \u2014 and Mixon\u2019s dance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MwRtjit_dlM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">made popular by Brooks<\/a>, the Houston Rockets small forward brought with him from his time with the Memphis Grizzlies \u2014 was important, as the Bengals needed overtime to beat the Jaguars 34-31.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"38\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/browns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Cleveland Browns<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s always fun when the big fellas up front get to celebrate. It\u2019s even better when a player comes home to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>Browns offensive tackle <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"BFwagyjSCjsjIm9l\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/dawand-jones-BFwagyjSCjsjIm9l\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dawand Jones<\/a> sustained a season-ending knee injury early in December, but during an October road matchup against the <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"44\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/colts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Indianapolis Colts<\/a>, Jones had the chance to deliver his own celebration after a <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"fMDnIMadtfL3lSJA\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/kareem-hunt-fMDnIMadtfL3lSJA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kareem Hunt<\/a> touchdown run. Jones, who attended Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, was handed the ball, and the 6-foot-8, 374-pound lineman <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LoganTillman\/status\/1716431763512152435\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">gave the Lucas Oil Stadium crowd a show<\/a> with a spike and a dance.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"55\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/steelers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s been a tough year for the Steelers wide receivers. And yet, they\u2019re the ones on the team going out of their way to celebrate touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>We have to give <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"qZ3H42PDGITKnjdb\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/george-pickens-qZ3H42PDGITKnjdb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">George Pickens<\/a> some love for his Week 2 performance against the Browns. Pickens took a pass from <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"stWwj88awWgSegzc\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/kenny-pickett-stWwj88awWgSegzc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kenny Pickett<\/a> and raced 71 yards for a touchdown. Nacua happens to wear the same No. 17 Woods once had in L.A., and the celebration was tantamount to a proclamation that there\u2019s a new receiver duo in town.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"58\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/niners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">San Francisco 49ers<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"FSp2bTsEwxXRf1oa\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/christian-mccaffrey-FSp2bTsEwxXRf1oa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Christian McCaffrey<\/a> was in the midst of what would become a 17-game scoring streak when he took a shovel pass into the end zone from 13 yards out in Week 6 against Cleveland, then spun the ball in the corner of the end zone. He scored a touchdown, and then had a fan in the end zone pretend to throw him a pitch, which Kmet <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dave_bfr\/status\/1708539409472077853\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">hit for a home run<\/a> that another fan tried to catch at the wall behind the end zone.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"41\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/lions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Detroit Lions<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"bjpbld5lEgMcPyJA\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/amon-ra-st-brown-bjpbld5lEgMcPyJA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Amon-Ra St. Brown<\/a> nearly brought a \u201cKey &amp; Peele\u201d skit to life Week 1 with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/19ymmvTW8zk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">hip thrust celebration<\/a>. Detroit\u2019s safe-for-work celebration of the season, however, came against the Raiders during Week 8 on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>Running back <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"gflEbjWMzy96Vno7\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/jahmyr-gibbs-gflEbjWMzy96Vno7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jahmyr Gibbs<\/a> scored and took his leap into the stands to a new level. He actually got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1lUxJM3xy9k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">all the way into the stands and celebrated<\/a>. He also had to be very careful climbing out the stands, as the wall was not a short climb like Green Bay\u2019s Lambeau Field.<\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"42\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/packers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Green Bay Packers<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The celebration that followed <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"6DWR6FWTZifJoHj5\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/malik-heath-6DWR6FWTZifJoHj5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Malik Heath<\/a>\u2019s first-ever touchdown stands out because it was so spontaneous, so pure.<\/p>\n<p>After Heath made a late-game catch at the pylon against the Giants in Week 14, he crashed into down judge Tom Stephan, taking him to the ground. That led to a couple of uncertain seconds while Stephan got to his feet.
