During the musical’s run, <\/span>American Idol<\/a> winner <\/span>Fantasia Barrino<\/a> took on the role of Celie, which she is reprising for the new movie.<\/span><\/p>\n Barrino isn’t the only star featured in the film that also graced <\/span>The Color Purple <\/span><\/em>Broadway stage. <\/span>Danielle Brooks<\/a>, known for her breakout role in Netflix’s\u00a0<\/span>Orange is the New Black<\/em><\/a>, played Sofia in the Broadway revival in 2015 and will once again tell her story. Brooks was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Critics Choice Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n Other headliners of<\/span>\u00a0The Color Purple<\/span><\/em> musical film include <\/span>Empire<\/span><\/em>‘s <\/span>Taraji P.
