{"id":1728,"date":"2023-10-05T11:24:01","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T15:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/sport\/if-it-aint-broke-aston-martin-boss-lawrence-stroll-says-f1-doesnt-need-andretti\/05\/10\/2023\/"},"modified":"2023-10-05T11:24:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-05T15:24:01","slug":"if-it-aint-broke-aston-martin-boss-lawrence-stroll-says-f1-doesnt-need-andretti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/sport\/if-it-aint-broke-aston-martin-boss-lawrence-stroll-says-f1-doesnt-need-andretti\/05\/10\/2023\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;If it ain&#8217;t broke&#8217;: Aston Martin boss Lawrence Stroll says F1 doesn&#8217;t need Andretti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Aston Martin boss Lawrence Stroll has questioned why Formula One would let Andretti join as an 11th team, saying &#8220;if it ain&#8217;t broke, don&#8217;t fix it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This week the governing FIA<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/38548308\/andretti-wins-fia-approval-bid-enter-f1-11th-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> gave its approval<\/a> for an Andretti-Cadillac bid to join F1 in 2025 or 2026, pending approval from the sport&#8217;s commercial rights holder, Liberty Media.<\/p>\n<p>Liberty is unlikely to accept Andretti without unanimous approval from all the sports shareholders, which includes the 10 existing teams.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline inline-photo full\">\n<figure><picture><source data-srcset=\"https:\/\/a4.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1005%2Fr1234182_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=570&amp;format=jpg, https:\/\/a4.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1005%2Fr1234182_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=1140&amp;cquality=40&amp;format=jpg 2x\" media=\"(min-width: 376px)\"><source data-srcset=\"https:\/\/a4.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1005%2Fr1234182_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=375, https:\/\/a4.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1005%2Fr1234182_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=750&amp;cquality=40&amp;format=jpg 2x\" media=\"(max-width: 375px)\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"photoCaption\">Lawrence Stroll&#8217;s Aston Martin team sit fourth in the constructor standings.\u00a0<cite>Photo by Eric Alonso\/Getty Images<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Various F1 teams have previously made it known they are opposed to allowing another team to enter when they are enjoying an increased share of the profits in the sport&#8217;s booming period.<\/p>\n<p>Stroll appears to be unchanged in his stance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think F1 at the moment, the business is on fire, the sport has never been in a better place, and I believe if it ain&#8217;t broke you don&#8217;t need to fix it, so I&#8217;m a strong believer that it&#8217;s working really well with 10 teams right now and believe that&#8217;s the way it should stay,&#8221; Stroll told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Andretti, owner of the team which shares his name, called F1&#8217;s teams &#8220;greedy&#8221; earlier this year when asked about the lukewarm response to his initial expression of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Much has been made of F1&#8217;s growth in America over the past few seasons, but Stroll suggested that surge would continue without a new U.S. entity joining the championship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I said the sport and the business is on fire,&#8221; he said. &#8220;There&#8217;s never been more fans or spectators, the audience is the highest it has ever been.
