Kevin Costner<\/a>‘s first post-<\/span>Yellowstone<\/em><\/a>\u00a0project final has a release date.\u00a0On Thursday, WB announced that\u00a0<\/span>Horizon: An American Saga<\/span><\/em>\u00a0will be released in the summer of 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter one of the film will hit theaters on June 28 and will be followed by chapter two on August 16.<\/span><\/p>\n

Costner acted in, directed, and produced the two-part theatrical event, which also stars Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt and Jamie Campbell Bower.<\/span><\/p>\n

The films are set in the pre-and-post-American Civil War\u00a0period, and depict the expansion of the American West.<\/span><\/p>\n

ET can confirm that the complete arc of Costner’s project is a planned four-total films. With <\/span>the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike<\/a> and <\/span>the recently concluded Writers Guild of America’s strike<\/a>, production on the third installment has been put on hold.<\/span><\/p>\n

News of <\/span>Costner’s\u00a0Yellowstone\u00a0<\/em>exit<\/a>\u00a0came out amid <\/span>his divorce<\/a> from Christine\u00a0Baumgartner, which <\/span>was settled<\/a> last month.\u00a0Matthew Belloni, founding partner of\u00a0<\/span>Puck News<\/em><\/a>, was the first to report\u00a0<\/span>the on-set challenges and disagreements<\/a>\u00a0that reportedly plagued the show during its final season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Belloni claimed that\u00a0Costner has\u00a0“a pretty big ego” and that this likely “came to the forefront on\u00a0<\/span>Yellowstone<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0especially recently, as has a passion project that he’s wanted to do for a long time — to direct this movie called\u00a0<\/span>Horizon<\/span><\/em>, which is a Western that he’s directing and starring in.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“He really wanted to put that in front of\u00a0<\/span>Yellowstone<\/span><\/em>, and the producers of\u00a0<\/span>Yellowstone<\/span><\/em>\u00a0said, ‘Hey,\u00a0the show\u00a0is your first priority, we’re paying you a lot of money to do this show.’\u00a0And Kevin just was very headstrong and wanted his way,” Belloni alleged.\u00a0“This was a fight that has been playing out for the past few months now behind the scenes.”<\/span><\/p>\n

During a child support hearing, the\u00a0<\/span>actor addressed<\/a> the circumstances of his exit from the show.\u00a0While Costner said he wanted to return for the sixth season, he “couldn\u2019t help them anymore.” According to Costner, making\u00a0<\/span>Horizon<\/span><\/em>\u00a0was a conflict with filming\u00a0<\/span>Yellowstone<\/span><\/em>\u00a0two times a year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At that same hearing, Costner’s lawyer\u00a0said that the actor <\/span>had not yet reached<\/a> an <\/span>exit agreement<\/a> with the\u00a0<\/span>Yellowstone\u00a0<\/span><\/em>team\u00a0and noted that litigation with the network may be forthcoming.<\/span><\/p>\n
