Trump in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, appeared in a segment that was presented as a CNN town hall event with Trump (played by the show\u2019s resident Trump impersonator, James Austin Johnson).<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Johnson fielded questions from other \u201cS.N.L.\u201d cast members, explaining how he planned to beat President Biden and would \u201cstop Taylor Swift from infiltrating the Super Bowl.\u201d The town hall moderators then introduced a question from an audience member \u201cwho describes herself as a concerned South Carolina voter.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">That voter turned out to be Haley, the former governor of South Carolina (as well as an ambassador to the United Nations during the Trump administration). \u201cYes, hello,\u201d Haley said to Johnson. \u201cMy question is, why won\u2019t you debate Nikki Haley?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cOh my God, it\u2019s her!\u201d Johnson said. \u201cThe woman who was in charge of security on Jan. 6. It\u2019s Nancy Pelosi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Haley asked, \u201cAre you doing OK, Donald? You might need a mental competency test.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Johnson responded that he had taken such a test and received a perfect score: \u201cThey said I\u2019m 100 percent mental.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">He added that men were better suited to hold political office than women, whom he declared \u201cterrible with money \u2014 in fact, a woman I know recently asked me for $<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/01\/26\/nyregion\/trump-carroll-defamation-trial\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">83.3 million<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">After the two exchanged further taunts, Johnson said that Haley was treating him badly. \u201cI\u2019m always very nice to you,\u201d he said, \u201cexcept when I\u2019m implying you weren\u2019t born in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The final town hall question came from the weekend\u2019s host, Ayo Edebiri, who asked Haley: \u201cI was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the Civil War? And do you think it starts with an \u2018s\u2019 and ends with a \u2018lavery\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">This referenced a real-life question at a New Hampshire town hall in December, where Haley\u2019s discursive response did not mention slavery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">She admitted, \u201cYes, I probably should have said that the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">After her appearance on \u201cS.N.L.,\u201d Haley <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NikkiHaley\/status\/1754020491591872668\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote in a social media post<\/a> that she had \u201ca blast tonight,\u201d adding: \u201cKnow it was past Donald\u2019s bedtime so looking forward to the stream of unhinged tweets in the a.m.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Trump later seemingly responded to her appearance by posting a video on his Truth Social account that purported to show Haley making public statements over the years, contradicting herself on various topics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Appearing on the show as a guest did not protect Haley from being teased later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">During the Weekend Update segment, Michael Che joked: \u201cNikki Haley has launched a series of campaign ads targeting both Donald Trump and Joe Biden called \u2018Grumpy Old Men.\u2019 OK, but at least they\u2019re men.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<h2 class=\"css-kypbrf eoo0vm40\" id=\"link-1491429a\">Opening monologue of the week<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Edebiri, the comic actress and writer who won an Emmy and a Golden Globe award last month for her role on the FX series \u201cThe Bear,\u201d continued her charm offensive in a monologue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">After appearing to get genuinely choked up, Edebiri explained how she\u2019d grown up in Boston, \u201cwhich makes me the first Black woman to ever admit that.\u201d She added, \u201cThree days into February, I\u2019m already making Black history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">She also talked about growing up in an immigrant family with African and Caribbean roots (\u201cSo you know what that means,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m in therapy\u201d), and explained how cast members from \u201cThe Bear\u201d prepared for their roles by working in restaurants. As you may have seen on your aunt\u2019s Facebook, many MAGA personalities are claiming that the Super Bowl is being rigged so that Kansas City wins and Taylor Swift can come on to the field with Travis Kelce and endorse Joe Biden. Man, MAGA people have so many enemies to keep track of. You have to hate the N.F.L., Taylor Swift, Bud Light, Disney, Kristen Stewart for some reason, electric stoves, windmills, the concept of rainbows and the green M&amp;M. And you have to think that everybody in the government is a secret pedophile, except for this guy dancing with Jeffrey Epstein. [his screen showed footage from an old video of Trump with Epstein.] I mean, isn\u2019t that the happiest you\u2019ve ever seen Trump? He\u2019s dancing like nobody\u2019s checking IDs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Che continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"css-1ggt3fz etf134l0\">\n<p class=\"css-12wzsk6 evys1bk0\">President Biden made a drastic change in his immigration policy, saying he would be willing to shut down the border if given the power by Congress.
