{"id":18727,"date":"2024-02-06T19:36:38","date_gmt":"2024-02-07T00:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/entertainment\/tyne-daly-withdraws-from-doubt-on-broadway-citing-health\/06\/02\/2024\/"},"modified":"2024-02-06T19:36:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-07T00:36:38","slug":"tyne-daly-withdraws-from-doubt-on-broadway-citing-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/entertainment\/tyne-daly-withdraws-from-doubt-on-broadway-citing-health\/06\/02\/2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Tyne Daly Withdraws From \u2018Doubt\u2019 on Broadway, Citing Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Tyne Daly, the Tony- and Emmy-winning actress, is withdrawing from a starring role in the first Broadway revival of \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.roundabouttheatre.org\/get-tickets\/2023-2024-season\/doubt-a-parable\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Doubt: A Parable<\/a>,\u201d citing health issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Daly <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/06\/01\/theater\/tyne-daly-liev-schreiber-doubt-broadway.html?bgrp=a&amp;smid=url-share\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">was set to star<\/a> in the production of John Patrick Shanley\u2019s <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pulitzer.org\/winners\/john-patrick-shanley\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pulitzer Prize-winning<\/a> <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/11\/24\/theater\/reviews\/a-nun-who-is-certain-even-if-truth-is-not.html?bgrp=a&amp;smid=url-share\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">2004 play<\/a> about a sexual assault accusation against a Catholic priest. She will be replaced by Amy Ryan, who will begin performances Feb. 13.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Roundabout Theater Company, the nonprofit producing the revival, announced the cast change on Tuesday, saying in a news release, \u201cMs. Daly was unexpectedly hospitalized on Friday and unfortunately needs to withdraw from the production while she receives medical care; she is thankfully expected to make a full recovery.\u201d The organization did not provide further details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The \u201cDoubt\u201d revival, also starring Liev Schreiber, was to begin previews last Friday, but that first performance was canceled by Roundabout. The production then began performances on Saturday, with the understudy Isabel Keating going on in Daly\u2019s stead; Keating has been performing the lead role since then, and will continue to do so through Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Daly was to play Sister Aloysius Beauvier, a nun who serves as the principal at a Catholic school and who suspects the parish priest, Father Brendan Flynn, of misconduct. Schreiber is playing the priest. In 2008, the play was adapted into <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/12\/12\/movies\/12doub.html?bgrp=a&amp;smid=url-share\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a film<\/a> starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman; it was also adapted <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/01\/20\/arts\/music\/debut-for-doubt-at-minnesota-opera.html?bgrp=a&amp;smid=url-share\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">into an opera<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Daly, 77, has worked steadily onstage and screen. She has performed in seven previous Broadway shows, winning a Tony Award in 1990 for starring in a revival of \u201cGypsy,\u201d and earning two more nominations since. She has also won six Emmy Awards, for the television shows \u201cCagney &amp; Lacey,\u201d \u201cChristy\u201d and \u201cJudging Amy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ryan, 55, has performed in five previous Broadway shows, and was nominated twice for Tony Awards in Roundabout revivals. Her last appearance on Broadway was nearly two decades ago, when she was featured in a revival of \u201cA Streetcar Named Desire.\u201d Since that time she has worked primarily on film and television, earning an Oscar nomination for her work in \u201cGone Baby Gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The \u201cDoubt\u201d revival, directed by Scott Ellis, will now open March 7, one week later than initially planned.
