\n<\/p>\n
For her latest movie, \u201cSometimes I Think About Dying<\/a>,\u201d Daisy Ridley plays Fran, a drab, standoffish, occasionally obnoxious office worker. Strangely enough, she found it exciting.<\/p>\n \u201cFran is a woman who loves her job; she loves her routine,\u201d Ridley said in a video interview from London. \u201cShe thinks about dying, but she doesn\u2019t want to die. She has just created this very rich inner world for herself because she struggles to connect with people in a real-life way.\u201d<\/p>\n Then a new guy moves into a cubicle near hers.<\/p>\n \u201cI would not say the film is one of fireworks,\u201d she said. \u201cI would describe it as embers of something being ignited.\u201d<\/p>\n Ridley is of course better known for her role as Rey in the \u201cStar Wars\u201d films. She will wield her lightsaber once again in the upcoming \u201cStar Wars: New Jedi Order,\u201d although she hadn\u2019t yet read the script when we spoke.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhat I know is the story is really cool, really exciting and very worthwhile,\u201d she said, before explaining why hot baths and reality TV and \u201cSmall Worlds\u201d by Caleb Azumah Nelson<\/a> and Stormzy\u2019s \u201cThis Is What I Mean\u201d<\/a> are among her cultural necessities. \u201cI did not think I would be coming back, but when I was told the story, I was like, \u2018OK, that\u2019s [expletive] awesome.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n These are edited excerpts from the conversation.<\/p>\n 1<\/p>\n I did a film called \u201cYoung Woman and the Sea,\u201d<\/a> about the first woman to swim the [English] Channel, a German American called Trudy Ederle. I was doing an awful lot of swimming, and my body was pretty messed up afterward. My spine felt like it had been a bit compressed. So since that movie, whenever I roll, my back goes crrrkk<\/em> the whole way. But there\u2019s nothing nicer than the feeling.<\/p>\n 2<\/p>\n I went to a Chinese doctor, and she was saying it\u2019s good to always keep your feet warm. I take that very seriously. In England, it\u2019s cold, and I like the coziness of a good thick pair of socks. Also, I was living in a hotel for the last film I did, and I don\u2019t want my feet touching the floor that has probably been touched by a thousand feet.<\/p>\n 3<\/p>\n I\u2019m partial to a hot sauce, and Frank\u2019s<\/a> for me encompasses every cuisine and basically makes everything better. As someone that doesn\u2019t really like to fill my trailer with anything, I did take Frank\u2019s hot sauce because it brings light to my life.<\/p>\n 4<\/p>\n There\u2019s something wonderful about wallowing in a lovely hot bath. If I\u2019m shooting, I tend to sit in the bath and watch stupid, terrible reality TV. I actually watched \u201cThe Kardashians\u201d because the film I did was really heavy, so I needed something that was far away from my life to balance me out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n 5<\/p>\n My husband had his first book, \u201cOpen Water<\/a>,\u201d and I loved it so much that he bought me this. It\u2019s like poetry<\/a>.<\/p>\n 6<\/p>\n I suffer from night terrors. I have since I was a child. My best friend used to think it was funny until he stayed over many years ago and was like, \u201cThat wasn\u2019t funny at all.\u201d What helps me is an eye mask because there is no light. There are no bits and bobs.<\/p>\n 7<\/p>\n My husband\u2019s family play a game called Clag<\/a>, which is quite hard to describe, but it\u2019s so good. You can play with up to seven people, and it\u2019s sort of luck but also sort of skill.
