ET can confirm that <\/span>Joshua Jackson<\/a> has joined the cast of Sony Pictures’ upcoming <\/span>Karate Kid<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>alongside Ben Wang, <\/span>Jackie Chan<\/a> and <\/span>Ralph Macchio<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n According to Sony Pictures, the movie will both fuse and continue the movies’ mythology and\u00a0bring the story to the East Coast, focusing on a teen from China who finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Other plot details remain under wraps, but the studio shared that Macchio will reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso from the original\u00a0<\/span>Karate Kid<\/span><\/em>\u00a0film trilogy, which began in 1984 when Macchio’s Daniel\u00a0moved to California and became an unlikely karate champion under the tutelage of Mr. Miyagi, played by the\u00a0late Pat Morita.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> was first with news of Joshua’s casting.<\/span><\/p>\n Jackson is best known for TV roles such as <\/span>Dawson’s Creek<\/span><\/em>, <\/span>The Affair<\/span><\/em> and, most recently, in the Paramount+ drama <\/span>Fatal Attraction<\/span><\/em>. He also starred in the Peacock drama <\/span>Dr. Death<\/span><\/em>, which earned him a 2022 Critics Choice Award.<\/span><\/p>\n Some of his past films have included <\/span>The Mighty Ducks<\/span><\/em> trilogy, <\/span>The Skulls<\/span><\/em>, <\/span>Gossip<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>Cruel Intentions<\/span><\/em>. When the latest iteration of <\/span>Karate Kid<\/span><\/em>\u00a0hits theaters on Dec. 13, it’ll mark Jackson’s first film in almost a decade since his 2015 drama, <\/span>Sky<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n The latest installment of <\/span>Karate Kid\u00a0<\/span><\/em>— a pop culture phenomenon that’s spanned almost three decades and earned more than $600 million worldwide —\u00a0will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle, with Rob Lieber penning the screenplay. Karen Rosenfelt is on as producer.<\/span><\/p>\n Jackson joining the cast is the latest since Sony Pictures announced in November that Macchio and Chan would return to reprise their roles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Macchio also stars in Netflix’s\u00a0<\/span>Cobra Kai<\/a><\/em>, which takes place several decades after the events of the original <\/span>Karate Kid<\/span><\/em> trilogy.
