{"id":23214,"date":"2024-03-07T03:40:57","date_gmt":"2024-03-07T08:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/entertainment\/the-oscars-carpet-color-goes-back-to-red\/07\/03\/2024\/"},"modified":"2024-03-07T03:40:57","modified_gmt":"2024-03-07T08:40:57","slug":"the-oscars-carpet-color-goes-back-to-red","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/entertainment\/the-oscars-carpet-color-goes-back-to-red\/07\/03\/2024\/","title":{"rendered":"The Oscars Carpet Color Goes Back to Red"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">After a red carpet reveal last year that upended the foundations of Hollywood\u2019s staid tradition \u2014 it was <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/10\/style\/oscars-red-carpet-champagne.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">champagne<\/a>-colored \u2014 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed on Wednesday that, this year, it would be returning to the traditional red.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Last year\u2019s departure from tradition was prompted by the introduction of an orange \u2014 sorry, <em class=\"css-2fg4z9 e1gzwzxm0\">sienna<\/em> \u2014 tent over the carpet that offered the couture-clad arrivals shelter from a forecast rainstorm, which Lisa Love, a red-carpet creative consultant for the Oscars, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/10\/style\/oscars-red-carpet-champagne.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told The New York Times<\/a> necessitated the color change to prevent a color clash.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">After initially considering a chocolate brown carpet, she said, they settled on the champagne color, which, next to the sienna tent, \u201cwas inspired by watching the sunset on a white-sand beach at the \u2018golden hour\u2019 with a glass of champagne in hand, evoking calm and peacefulness,\u201d she <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/10\/style\/oscars-red-carpet-champagne.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told The Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ms. Love acknowledged in the interview that the 50,000-square-foot rug, which was very much giving \u201cShoes-off house!\u201d vibes, might be a challenge to keep clean.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt will probably get dirty \u2014 maybe it wasn\u2019t the best choice,\u201d <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/10\/style\/oscars-red-carpet-champagne.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ms. Love said<\/a> at the time. \u201cWe\u2019ll see!\u201d (Heavy rain indeed arrived, and online commentators also questioned the decision.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Last year\u2019s champagne carpet \u2014 the first time in more than six decades that the academy\u2019s arrival rug was not red \u2014 was part of a trend of colorful carpets that have swept premieres, galas and award ceremonies across the country in recent years. See the Emmys <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/01\/15\/style\/emmys-red-carpet-photos.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">(gray<\/a>) and the world premiere of \u201cBarbie\u201d in Los Angeles in July (<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CulGc5eu6CK\/?img_index=1\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pink, obviously<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Red carpets have been a staple at premieres and galas since 1922, when the showman Sid Grauman rolled one out for the 1922 premiere of \u201cRobin Hood,\u201d which starred Douglas Fairbanks, at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The Oscars adopted it beginning with the 1961 ceremony, and, ever since, the special shade \u2014 known as Academy Red \u2014 has been instantly recognizable in photos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">But the attention-grabbing rugs have historically presented a challenge for stylists.
