Three researchers maneuvered through the darkness of an underwater cave in Japan.<\/p>\n

It was the same cave off Okinawa Island where a new species of crab with degenerated eyes and a white body had recently been discovered. So the divers were exploring the cave in hopes of discovering their own rare new creatures<\/a>, according to a March 5 news release from the University of the Ryukyus.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when \u2014 about 100 feet from the entrance of the cave \u2014 the team discovered a minuscule creature.<\/p>\n

The \u201cunusual\u201d critter<\/a> was in about 3 feet of water when it was collected, the researchers said in a study published March 5 in the journal Zootaxa.<\/p>\n
