Some things are clear. The <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"58\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/niners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">San Francisco 49ers<\/a> are very good. The <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"47\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/dolphins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Miami Dolphins<\/a> are very fast (and probably very good). And some things are not clear. Two of the most highly respected coaches in the league in the last two decades find themselves near the bottom of this week\u2019s Power Rankings. And the <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"46\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/chiefs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> look out of sorts on offense despite winning.<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cBecoming Clear\u201d category is how each team\u2019s additions are affecting outcomes this year. For that reason, we\u2019re doing a rookie check-in this week, although we\u2019ve taken the liberty of expanding the category to \u201cnotable new guy\u201d when warranted.<\/p>\n<p>(Last week: 1)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday<\/strong>: Beat  Dallas Cowboys  42-10<\/p>\n<p>Should we do <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"3Nxpcb3Oda9xKjNY\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/sam-darnold-3Nxpcb3Oda9xKjNY\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sam Darnold<\/a> here? San Francisco beat <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"39\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/team\/cowboys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dallas<\/a> so badly Sunday night that Darnold got into the game, but no, this section is just going to be a 49ers appreciation post since the Niners don\u2019t have any newcomers making a significant impact. Being the best team in the <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4944047\/2023\/10\/10\/nfl-week-5-best-worst-coaching-decisions-nguyen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NFL in mid-October<\/a> is not the goal, but Brock Purdy\u2019s 123.1 passer rating would be the <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4943889\/2023\/10\/09\/kawakami-brock-purdy-49ers-getting-better\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">highest for any quarterback<\/a> in a season since at least 2000, according to TruMedia, and there\u2019s no indication San Francisco will slow down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Up next<\/strong>: at  Cleveland Browns,  Sunday, 1 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p>(Last week: 2)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday<\/strong>: Beat  Los Angeles Rams  23-14<\/p>\n<p>After coming within four points of a Super Bowl, the Eagles added two of the most productive new guys in the offseason. Defensive lineman <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"iCvfhO9lbLAFYFLM\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/jalen-carter-iCvfhO9lbLAFYFLM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jalen Carter<\/a>, the No. 9 pick, is tied for seventh in the league with 23 QB pressures. <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"cWsPQC7Rmam5Z0pU\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/dandre-swift-cWsPQC7Rmam5Z0pU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">D\u2019Andre Swift<\/a>, acquired in an offseason trade from Detroit, has 361 rushing yards in the last three weeks. Save the arguments about whether the <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4095518\/2023\/01\/17\/nfl-assisting-the-runner-qb-sneak-jalen-hurts-eagles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tush Push<\/a> is a football play. After totaling 5 yards in the first two games of the season, <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4942364\/2023\/10\/08\/miami-dolphins-new-record-offense-2000-rams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the rookie running back<\/a> leads the NFL with 455 rushing yards in the last three weeks. He\u2019s averaging 12.3 yards per carry in that time and has two of the three fastest speeds in the NFL this year (21.93 mph and 21.76 mph), according to NextGen Stats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Up next<\/strong>: vs.  Carolina Panthers,  Sunday, 1 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p>(Last week: 7)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday<\/strong>: Beat  Carolina Panthers  42-24<\/p>\n<p>Second-round tight end <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"dWkm1xu0iPqlJ5j6\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/sam-laporta-dWkm1xu0iPqlJ5j6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sam LaPorta<\/a> is one of the best rookies in the league and a <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4942818\/2023\/10\/08\/lions-panthers-recap-dan-campbell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">big reason the Lions<\/a> are fourth in the league in scoring (29.6). LaPorta leads all tight ends with 25 catches for 289 yards. Second-round pick <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"zDqikSUJpSdjzoC1\" href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/nfl\/player\/rashee-rice-zDqikSUJpSdjzoC1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Rashee Rice<\/a> is second on the team in catches with 17 but has only 173 yards. Kincaid has been on the field for more than 60 percent of the Bills\u2019 snaps but has barely topped 100 receiving yards for the season (17 catches, 118 yards). Buffalo isn\u2019t getting much out of the rest of its six-man draft class either. The former No. 1 pick looked destined to end his career as a backup. Now he\u2019s top 10 in the league in passer rating (101.9) with seven touchdowns versus two interceptions, and the Bucs are infatuated. Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht called him \u201ca dude\u201d on Peter Schrager\u2019s podcast last week.
