Seinfeld himself has perhaps been the most vocal about the episode in the years since. In a 2014 Q. and A. on Reddit<\/a>, he said that he was \u201chappy\u201d with it and that he didn\u2019t \u201cbelieve in trying to change the past.\u201d But in 2017<\/a>, at a New Yorker Festival, he called it an \u201cimpossible\u201d episode. \u201cI sometimes think we really shouldn\u2019t have even done it,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was a lot of pressure on us at that time to do one big last show, but big is always bad in comedy.\u201d<\/p>\n In a 2013 interview<\/a> with the Television Academy, Jason Alexander, who played George, called it \u201ca good episode, not a great episode.\u201d But he said he loved the idea and appreciated that David found an organic way to bring back characters who had shaped the show: the Soup Nazi, for example, or the low-talker<\/a>. \u201cWe never really got to say thank you,\u201d Alexander said.<\/p>\n And in probably the funniest sendup of the episode, Julia Louis-Dreyfus<\/a>, who played Elaine, joked on the final \u201cLate Show With David Letterman\u201d Top 10 List<\/a>: \u201cThanks for letting me take part in another hugely disappointing series finale.\u201d<\/p>\n In its defense, David has repeatedly said that, given the buildup and popularity, there was no way to live up to expectations.<\/p>\n
