World Food Programme Director Cindy McCain<\/a><\/span><\/span> sat down for an interview<\/a> with NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d host Kristen Welker to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying there\u2019s \u2018full-blown famine\u2019 in northern Gaza.<\/p>\n \u201cWhenever you have conflicts like this, and emotions rage high, and things happen in a war, famine happens. And so, what I can explain to you is [that] there is full-blown famine in the north, and it\u2019s moving its way south,\u201d McCain told Welker during the interview, which is set to air in its entirety Sunday.<\/p>\n McCain expressed severe concern amid the ongoing humanitarian crises, asking for a \u201ccease-fire\u201d for \u201cunfettered access\u201d to deliver food into Gaza safely.<\/p>\n Welker followed up with McCain in the interview, asking, \u201c[what] you\u2019re saying [is] there\u2019s full-blown famine in northern Gaza,\u201d and the World Food Programme director responded, saying, \u201cYes, I am.\u201d<\/p>\n The United Nations food agency in March issued a statement<\/a>, warning that famine was \u201cimminent\u201d in Gaza as the war between Israel and Hamas rages on.<\/p>\n McCain previously stated, following a report<\/a> from the World Food Programme (WFP), that \u201cPeople in Gaza are starving to death right now.
