At this point, it’s easy to imagine that writer-director <\/span>Rian Johnson<\/a>\u00a0creates some sort of Thanos-type gauntlet for each installment of the <\/span>Knives Out<\/em><\/a> franchise — assembling as many talented A-list performers as he can to join <\/span>Daniel Craig’s<\/a> Detective Benoit Blanc in his newest, twist-packed mystery.<\/span><\/p>\n Johnson and Netflix <\/span>announced the third installment<\/a> in the fun franchise in May 2024, sharing little more than the title:\u00a0<\/span>Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. <\/span><\/em>The new film follows the original <\/span>Knives Out<\/span><\/em> — released in 2019 — as well as 2022’s\u00a0<\/span>Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n “I love everything about whodunits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” the director shared on social media\u00a0before announcing the threequel\u2019s title. “There\u2019s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”<\/span><\/p>\n Casting information started to roll in after the film’s announcement, with Craig to be joined by stars like <\/span>Josh O’Connor<\/a> (<\/span>The Crown, Challengers<\/span><\/em>), <\/span>Cailee Spaeny<\/a> (<\/span>Priscilla, Civil War<\/span><\/em>),\u00a0<\/span>Andrew Scott<\/a>\u00a0(<\/span>Fleabag, Ripley<\/span><\/em>), <\/span>Kerry Washington<\/a> (<\/span>Scandal, Little Fires Everywhere<\/span><\/em>),\u00a0<\/span>Glenn Close<\/a>, and, as <\/span>Deadline<\/em><\/a> reported on Thursday,\u00a0<\/span>Jeremy Renner<\/a> (Hawkeye, Mayor of Kingstown).<\/span><\/p>\n Read on to see everything we know about Benoit Blanc’s latest mystery.<\/span><\/p>\n The only constant main character throughout the first two <\/span>Knives Out <\/span><\/em>films has been\u00a0Detective Benoit Blanc, Craig’s deep-thinking, country-fried detective, who gets his answers — and his killers — even when it seems like all is lost.<\/span><\/p>\n In January 2023, Johnson teased whether fans could expect to see <\/span>Hugh Grant<\/a> return as Craig’s love interest in another\u00a0<\/span>Knives Out<\/span><\/em>\u00a0movie after he appeared in<\/span> Glass Onion.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n “Honestly, you throw a rock in here and you’ll hit somebody that I’d love to have in one of the mystery movies. So, we’ll see,”\u00a0<\/span>he told ET<\/a>\u00a0at the Moet platform at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards before discussing a potential continuation of the romance between Grant and Craig’s characters. “We’ll see. Look, I should only be so lucky to have Hugh Grant in more mystery movies. We’ll see what happens. Everything is a maybe.”<\/span><\/p>\n Fresh off his buzzed-about performance in <\/span>Challengers<\/em><\/a> — a sharp contrast to his posh period piece roles in <\/span>The Crown<\/a> <\/span><\/em>and<\/span> Emma<\/span><\/em> — it will be interesting to see what kind of character O’Connor steps into in the new <\/span>Knives Out <\/span><\/em>film, though no details have yet been announced.<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>Priscilla<\/span><\/em> star is another <\/span>hot young starlet<\/a>\u00a0to join the <\/span>Knives Out <\/span><\/em>franchise after showing her range already in 2024 with her performance in not only Sofia Coppola’s emotional biopic, but also in Alex Garland’s harrowing dystopian thriller, <\/span>Civil War.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n OK, he’s not just “Hot Priest” anymore, but it’s hard to look at Scott and not feel blessed by his role in the second season of <\/span>Fleabag<\/em><\/a>.
