{"id":3164,"date":"2023-10-22T13:57:05","date_gmt":"2023-10-22T17:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/world\/tim-scott-defends-saying-biden-has-blood-on-his-hands-in-wake-of-hamas-attack\/22\/10\/2023\/"},"modified":"2023-10-22T13:57:05","modified_gmt":"2023-10-22T17:57:05","slug":"tim-scott-defends-saying-biden-has-blood-on-his-hands-in-wake-of-hamas-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/world\/tim-scott-defends-saying-biden-has-blood-on-his-hands-in-wake-of-hamas-attack\/22\/10\/2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Scott defends saying Biden has \u2018blood on his hands\u2019 in wake of Hamas attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Sen. <button class=\"caas-xray-inline caas-xray-entity caas-xray-pill\" data-ylk=\"cid:Tim_Scott;pos:1;elmt:wiki;sec:pill-inline-entity;elm:pill-inline-text;itc:1;cat:OfficeHolder;\" data-entity-id=\"Tim_Scott\">Tim Scott<\/button> (R-S.C.) defended his previous comments where he alleged that President Biden has \u201cblood on his hands,\u201d in the wake of Hamas\u2019s deadly attacks on Israel, claiming he does not regret the comment squared at the White House\u2019s prisoner swap with Iran last month.<\/p>\n<p>Asked on ABC News\u2019s \u201cThis Week,\u201d if he regrets the comment, Scott said, \u201cI don\u2019t actually, I\u2019m a happy warrior without any question. But we are now in the midst of a conflict, and so the warrior requires responsibility to start at the top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you think about the fact that the weakness of Joe Biden attracts conflict around this world, and frankly, the negotiations with Iran\u2026was specifically [what] I was talking about,\u201d Scott continued. \u201cSix billion for hostages only creates a bigger market for Americans abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When \u201cThis Week\u201d co-anchor Jonathan Karl tried to interject, Scott continued, \u201cLet me finish, Jon. That money \u2014 we know Hamas\u2019s first thank you was to Iran. Ninety percent of their money comes from Iran. Put those pieces of the puzzle together. That\u2019s why the administration froze those dollars just last week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott, also running in the Republican presidential primary race, has been vocally critical in recent weeks over the Biden administration\u2019s previously released $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds in the wake of Israel\u2019s war with Hamas, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the Biden admisntration agreed to unfreeze $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds in exchange for the freedom of five wrongfully detained American citizens. In doing so, the Biden administration granted clemency to five Iranians and issued a blanket waiver for international banks to allow the transfer of $6 billion of Iranian oil sale proceeds, frozen in South Korea, to a bank in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>The $6 billion deal came under renewed criticism after Hamas, which is supported by Iran, launched a surprise attack against Israel earlier this month that killed over 1,400 people \u2014 mostly civilians and wounded thousands of others. Iran is a longtime backer of Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. officials claim the Iranian funds, which were restricted to humanitarian use, remained unspent in the wake of attacks, though critics have argued Iran anticipated the influx of cash and moved other resources to Hamas as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Reiterating the U.S. officials claims, Karl suggested Scott\u2019s claim that Biden was \u201ccomplicit\u201d in Hamas\u2019s attacks is \u201cbeyond the pale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that, when you have President Biden negotiating with the Iranians for the release of hostages \u2014 I said this under President Obama as well. When\u2026we paid $400 million for hostages, you are creating a market for American lives to be lost,\u201d Scott said, in reference to Obama\u2019s $400 million cash payment to Iran, which <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/291940-republicans-slam-400m-ransom-payment-to-iran\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Republicans criticized;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link \">Republicans criticized<\/a> as amounting to ransom for hostages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you pay $6 billion, do not be surprised when the result of that $6 billion leads to more conflict in the Middle East,\u201d Scott continued. \u201c\u2026I\u2019m saying with great clarity that weakness from the American president, plus the negotiations, leading to terrorist attacks by negotiating with the number one state sponsor of terrorism in the world. Yes, it creates complicity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott argued that while whoever \u201cpulls the trigger\u201d is primarily responsible, this does not \u201crelease\u201d Biden as \u201cbeing complicit and responsible in what we\u2019re seeing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amidst mounting pressure from several lawmakers, including Scott, to freeze the funds, the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/us-halting-release-6-billion-iranian-oil-assets\/story?id=103928072\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:reached an agreement;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link \">reached an agreement <\/a>earlier this month with the Qatari government to block Iran from accessing the $6 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Scott has long supported U.S. sanctions on Iran.
