laws.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>One of these is North Korea&#8217;s <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/world-report\/2022\/country-chapters\/north-korea\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Reactionary Ideology and Culture Rejection Act;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Reactionary Ideology and Culture Rejection Act<\/a>, which forbids individuals from disseminating media that originates in South Korea, the US, or Japan.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear whether those restrictions apply to foreigners visiting the country, such as the <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/russian-kid-stayed-north-korea-summer-camp-songdowon-tried-brainwash-2024-7?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Russian schoolchildren preparing to attend summer camps;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Russian schoolchildren preparing to attend summer camps<\/a> in the country.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first instance of North Koreans reportedly being killed for their association with content from their southern neighbor.<\/p>\n<p>According to a 2022 UN Secretary-General report, a man in Kangwon Province was killed by a public firing squad after his neighborhood watch unit saw him selling digital content from South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.korea.net\/Government\/Briefing-Room\/Press-Releases\/view?articleId=54305&amp;insttCode=A260105&amp;type=N\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:2024 report on North Korean Human Rights,;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">2024 report on North Korean Human Rights,<\/a> released by South Korea&#8217;s Ministry of Unification, claimed that phones in North Korea are regularly checked for &#8220;South Korean-style language&#8221; and that wearing white wedding dresses is punished for being &#8220;reactionary&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/north-korea-teens-get-12-years-hard-labour-watching-k-pop-video-2024-01-19\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:A video was released;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">A video was released<\/a> earlier this year showing two teenagers being sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for watching a K-pop video.<\/p>\n<p>Despite eyewitness accounts compiled by <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/asa240011997en.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Amnesty International;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Amnesty International<\/a>, the North Korean government has denied that public executions take place in the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to North Korean authorities, the last execution took place in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>North Korea is still technically at war with its southern counterpart, with their conflict in the 1950s ending in a truce rather than a peace treaty.<\/p>\n<p>A defector told the <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.koreaherald.com\/view.php?ud=20240627050611\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Korea Herald;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Korea Herald<\/a> that in 2020, North Korean parents were forced to sign a pledge stating they would ensure their children do not watch &#8220;impure video content&#8221;
