It marks the first time the ICJ has delivered a position on the legality of the 57-year occupation.<\/p>\n<p>The ICJ, based at The Hague in the Netherlands, has been examining the issue since the beginning of last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icj-cij.org\/sites\/default\/files\/case-related\/186\/186-20230117-REQ-01-00-EN.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:at the request of the UN General Assembly;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">at the request of the UN General Assembly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The court was specifically asked to give its view on Israel&#8217;s policies and practices towards the Palestinians, and on the legal status of the occupation.<\/p>\n<p><em>This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.
