Despite fans calling for <\/span>Steve Martin<\/a> to play <\/span>Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz<\/a> in the upcoming season of <\/span>Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a>, it looks like that’s not going to happen.<\/span><\/p>\n As soon as the democratic presidential nominee, <\/span>Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a>, named Walz as her running mate, the internet went into a fervor over how perfect Martin would be to play the 60-year-old politician on the long-running sketch comedy series.<\/span><\/p>\n However, Martin has revealed that, although producer <\/span>Lorne Michaels<\/a> did get in touch with him about the possibility, he declined the offer.<\/span><\/p>\n “I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no,” Martin <\/span>told the L.A. Times<\/a> on Wednesday. “I said, ‘Lorne, I’m not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.’ I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses.”<\/span><\/p>\n For Martin, one major issue with taking on the role is that the impression would be an “ongoing” role throughout the election and potentially beyond, depending on the outcome of the election.<\/span><\/p>\n “It’s not like you do it once and get applause and never do it again,” Martin said. “They need a real impressionist to do that… I’d be struggling.”<\/span><\/p>\n Maya Rudolph<\/a> has already <\/span>signed on to reprise her role as Harris<\/a>\u00a0for the show’s upcoming 50th season. <\/span>Deadline<\/em><\/a> reports that the comic actress has pushed back production on the third season of her Apple TV+ series<\/span> Loot <\/span><\/em>so she can fit <\/span>SNL<\/span><\/em> into her schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n Martin is inarguably correct, however, about how much effort can go into guest starring as a political figure on <\/span>SNL<\/span><\/em>. <\/span>Alec Baldwin<\/a> famously portrayed <\/span>Donald Trump<\/a> for the first time in October 2016, and <\/span>went on to appear as Trump 46 more times<\/a> over the following four years.<\/span><\/p>\n
