Following the fall of leader Bashar al-Assad in Syria, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has promised to help rebuild the country.<\/p>\n
“Europe will also help with the reconstruction,” Scholz said in a video on X.<\/p>\n
After years of suffering through civil war, Syrians deserve a life of freedom and security, the chancellor argued.<\/p>\n
The country’s new rulers must ensure this, Scholz said. “We will work with them on this basis.”<\/p>\n
Some Syrian refugees in Germany hope to soon return to their home country, Scholz added. “We will also support this as soon as the situation allows,” he said.<\/p>\n
However, Syrians who are well integrated in Germany will remain welcome in the country, Scholz said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
