The plane seen in the video was able to return safely to the Algiers International Airport.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">&#8220;The final sounds heard on board flight J2-8243. Shocking news before the new year due to an Azerbaijan Airlines crash in Kazakhstan,&#8221; read a December 28, 2024 Thai-language post on <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/N82U-CLLU\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:TikTok;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">TikTok<\/a>, where it racked up 1.5 million views.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">The video shows passengers chanting an Islamic prayer in a plane with the oxygen masks deployed. A flight attendant in blue is seen walking down the aisle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">It then cuts to footage of the wreckage of a plane, a memorial and break-words min-w-0\">The post surfaced after an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 plane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabnews.com\/node\/2585098\/world\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:crash-landed;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">crash-landed<\/a> on Christmas Day in Kazakhstan, killing 38 of the 67 people onboard (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/TYL8-5JBV\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has demanded that Moscow admit it mistakenly fired on the plane as it tried to make a scheduled landing at the Grozny airport in Russia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">Russia has not confirmed that one of its air-defense missiles hit the plane, though President Vladimir Putin told Aliyev in a phone call that the systems were active at the time and that he was sorry the incident took place in Russian airspace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">The same claim linking the video to the Azerbaijan Airlines crash also surfaced in other Facebook posts from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/6f89b31a-a788-4162-9614-412f1a1d8eec\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Thailand;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Thailand<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/e0b75e7c-4569-4f38-9c5e-1434bc38cfed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Bangladesh;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Bangladesh<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/6eaff6b9-a632-4d07-85f1-cb84d2fc3de0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Philippines;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Philippines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">It also surfaced in <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/KCN3-XCKR\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:simplified Chinese;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">simplified Chinese<\/a> social media posts that falsely claimed it showed the final moments onboard a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/news\/south-korea-says-fatal-crash-cockpit-transcript-nearly-complete-2103fe49\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Jeju Air;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Jeju Air<\/a> flight from Thailand that crashed in South Korea and killed all but two of the 181 people onboard (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/ZD5Y-P8VT\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">The exact cause of the Boeing 737-800 crash is still unknown, but investigators have pointed to a bird strike, faulty landing gear and the runway barrier as possible issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">The footage in fact circulated months before the two fatal aviation disasters, alongside reports of a technical malfunction that forced an Air Algerie flight to turn back to Algiers in September 2024.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg font-bold\">Air Algerie flight<\/h3>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">A reverse image search on Google traced the video to a Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Infotraficalgerie1\/videos\/903135661730830\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:post;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">post<\/a> by Info Trafic Algerie, an Algerian traffic information\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/infotraficalgerie.dz\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawHkHi5leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHW7Q68Q7-D9BRUVvDf_XbGwCjelsHS0ygej6-Jj7M2G8USrLuZYyUn9Dbw_aem_RF1pq-EiuJl3IcSBwDVMGA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:site;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">site<\/a>, on September 23, 2024 (archived links <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250102113329\/https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=903135661730830\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/6KSP-NP3F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">The post, written in Arabic, said the video showed Air Algerie flight AH 3018, which experienced a technical malfunction on its way to the Turkish city of Istanbul.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">&#8220;<span>The flight captain decided to return to Houari Boumediene International Airport an hour after take-off as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of the passengers and crew,<\/span>&#8221; read part of the Arabic-language post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">Below is a screenshot comparison of the video in greatest)&#8221; heard from the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/7TKUpYeHXi8?si=nEX84IjKmavHvtgv&amp;t=36\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:36-second mark;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">36-second mark<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/LH8L-9YFE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">The video&#8217;s description said it shows moments of panic experienced by passengers in an Algerian plane that experienced a technical malfunction, forcing it to make an emergency landing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0\">The rest of the footage included in the circulating video is genuine &#8212; the clip of the Azerbaijan Airlines wreck was published by multiple news outlets, including British newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iStHB7crgSo&amp;ab_channel=TheTelegraph\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the Telegraph;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the Telegraph<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/95XU-BNXQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived
