\u201cConclave<\/a>,\u201d Edward Berger\u2019s thriller about the selection of a new pope, received the most nominations on Wednesday for this year\u2019s EE British Academy Film Awards, known as the BAFTAs.<\/p>\n The movie secured 12 nods, including one for best film, a category in which it is up against Sean Baker\u2019s dramedy \u201cAnora<\/a>\u201d and \u201cThe Brutalist<\/a>,\u201d starring Adrien Brody.<\/p>\n Also competing for the main best film prize are \u201cA Complete Unknown<\/a>\u201d and \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez<\/a>,\u201d which secured 11 nominations \u2014 the second highest number.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Yet it will give \u201cConclave\u201d momentum going into this year\u2019s Oscars, although the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has repeatedly delayed<\/a> the announcement of the prize\u2019s nominees because of the Los Angeles wildfires<\/a>. The Academy is now scheduled to announce the nominations on Jan. 23.<\/p>\n Anna Higgs, the chair of BAFTA\u2019s film committee, said that BAFTA, which has many Los Angeles-based members, had not seen any drop in voting because of the fires.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s BAFTA ceremony is scheduled to take place on Feb. 16 in London, and Higgs said it was \u201ctoo early to speculate\u201d on whether the wildfires would have any further impact on the ceremony, which will be broadcast in the United States on BritBox.<\/p>\n In individual artist categories, the competition on the night will be wide open.<\/p>\n In the best director category, Berger is up against Baker (\u201cAnora\u201d), Brady Corbet (\u201cThe Brutalist\u201d) and Jacques Audiard (\u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d), as well as Denis Villeneuve for his sci-fi sequel \u201cDune: Part Two\u201d and Coralie Fargeat for \u201cThe Substance,\u201d a body-horror gross-out about a washed-up TV star, played by Demi Moore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n In the leading actress category, Moore, who won a Golden Globe for that performance, will compete against Cynthia Erivo for \u201cWicked,\u201d Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n for \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez,\u201d Marianne Jean-Baptiste<\/a> for \u201cHard Truths<\/a>,\u201d Mikey Madison for \u201cAnora,\u201d and Saoirse Ronan for her role as a recovering alcoholic in \u201cThe Outrun<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n The leading actor category sees Adrien Brody (\u201cThe Brutalist\u201d) up against Colman Domingo (\u201cSing Sing<\/a>\u201d), Ralph Fiennes (\u201cConclave\u201d), Hugh Grant (\u201cHeretic<\/a>\u201d), Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet (\u201cA Complete Unknown\u201d) and Sebastian Stan (\u201cThe Apprentice\u201d).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
