They ended up taking the case to court and compromised on naming their son Lucian instead, per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americannamesociety.org\/german-couple-cant-legally-name-their-kid-lucifer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:American Name Society;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">American Name Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verwaltungsvorschriften-im-internet.de\/bsvwvbund_11081980_VII31331317.htm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Instructions for Registrars;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Instructions for Registrars<\/a> in Germany states that a first name for a child \u201cmay not be chosen that are offensive\u201d or aren\u2019t considered first names.
