VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) \u2014 A public inquiry on foreign interference in Canada concluded Tuesday that while some foreign entities tried to interfere in the country’s elections, its democratic institutions remain “robust,\u201d but warned against the danger of misinformation<\/a>.<\/p>\n The final report of the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference found \u201cno evidence of traitors\u201d in the country\u2019s parliament, but Commissioner Marie-Jos\u00e9e Hogue warned that one of the biggest threats to democracy was foreign actors sowing disinformation in both the traditional media and social media.<\/p>\n \u201cDistinguishing what is false is becoming increasingly difficult and the consequences are extraordinarily harmful,\u201d Hogue told a news conference in Ottawa where she did not take questions.<\/p>\n See for yourself \u2014 The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The Canadian government established the public inquiry in September 2023<\/a> to investigate whether China, Russia and other countries interfered in Canadian federal elections in 2019 and 2021 that re-elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau\u2019s Liberals.<\/p>\n The final report criticized the federal government for its slow response to foreign interference and said \u201ccoordination between the various players involved has not always been optimal.\u201d<\/p>\n The report includes seven volumes and lays out 51 recommendations for the federal government, nearly half of which she says should be considered before the next election.<\/p>\nTrusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox<\/h3>\n
