Several people were injured when a car crashed into a union demonstration in Munich on Thursday, and the driver was taken into custody, the police said.<\/p>\n
The police have not said whether the crash, which took place a few hundred yards north of the city\u2019s central police station, was an accident or a deliberate attack.<\/p>\n
The crash happened a day before the opening of the Munich Security Conference, which is being held less than a mile from the site of the crash and attracts high-profile participants and journalists from around the world.<\/p>\n
Sandra Demmelhuber, a journalist for Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Bavarian public broadcaster, was at the site and described a chaotic scene. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cThere is a person lying on the street and a young man was led away by the police. People sitting, crying and shaking on the ground,\u201d she wrote on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n The demonstration had been organized by Verdi, one of Germany\u2019s largest unions, which had called a one-day strike for city workers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
