The video has in fact circulated in reports about a blaze onboard a crowded train which killed 74 people in October 2019.<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The video, showing several train carriages engulfed in flames, was viewed more than 123,000 times after it was posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/9a8603bf-46e0-4926-bd43-d8b5ed6a136a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Facebook;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Facebook<\/a> on February 9, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Its Urdu-language caption read in part: &#8220;Breaking News. Five people were killed and several others wounded after a Tezgam train caught\u00a0<span>fire near Liaqatpur Tanwari station.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;According to sources, the train was going from Karachi to Lahore.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Tezgam, one of Pakistan&#8217;s oldest and most popular rail services, runs between the southern port city of Karachi to the garrison city of Rawalpindi, neighbouring Islamabad.\u00a0<span>The town of <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/DPhY3NvobB6jnz4h8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Liaqatpur;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Liaqatpur<\/a> is along the train route, in central Pakistan<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/4NTS-FY3U?type=image\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>) .<\/p>\n<figure class=\"relative mb-4\">\n<div class=\"relative\"><button aria-label=\"View larger image\" class=\"group absolute bottom-3 right-3 size-10 md:size-[50px] lg:inset-0 lg:size-full lg:bg-transparent\" data-ylk=\"elm:expand;itc:1;sec:image-lightbox;slk:lightbox-open;\"><span class=\"absolute bottom-0 right-0 rounded-full bg-white p-3 opacity-100 shadow-elevation-3 transition-opacity duration-300 group-hover:block group-hover:opacity-100 md:p-[17px] lg:bottom-6 lg:right-6 lg:bg-white\/90 lg:p-5 lg:opacity-0 lg:shadow-none\"><svg viewbox=\"0 0 22 22\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"size-4 lg:size-6\" width=\"22\" height=\"22\"><path d=\"M12.372.92c0-.506.41-.916.915-.916L21 0l-.004 7.712a.917.917 0 0 1-1.832 0V3.183l-6.827 6.828-1.349-1.348 6.828-6.828h-4.529a.915.915 0 0 1-.915-.915M1.835 17.816l6.828-6.828 1.349 1.349-6.829 6.827h4.529a.915.915 0 0 1 0 1.831L0 21l.004-7.713a.916.916 0 0 1 1.831 0z\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/button><dialog aria-label=\"Modal Dialog\" aria-modal=\"true\" class=\"fixed inset-0 z-[4] size-full max-h-none max-w-none bg-white hidden\"\/><\/div><figcaption class=\"relative text-sm mt-1 pr-2.5\">\n<p><span>Screenshot of the false Facebook post, captured on February 11, 2025<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The same video was shared elsewhere on <a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/492e13ee-08d0-47a6-a6f5-1f5012f1ec91\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Facebook;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Facebook<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/6b791bc1-eb13-409f-bb72-ccf02d419665\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:X;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">X<\/a> in posts that also <span>claimed it showed a fire that broke out aboard a train<\/span> in February 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;So sad,&#8221; read a comment on one of the posts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Another said: &#8220;May Allah have mercy. How come all the carriages suddenly caught fire?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But\u00a0<span>an official with the Liaqatpur police\u00a0<\/span>and a Pakistan Railways spokesperson both told AFP there have been no recent train fire incidents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;No fire incident in any train took place in the last year,&#8221;\u00a0Pakistan Railways spokesman Babar Ali Raza said on February 17, adding that the\u00a0<span>video actually shows a fire that occurred in 2019<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the falsely shared video led to\u00a0<span>a report about a <a href=\"https:\/\/au.news.yahoo.com\/funerals-begin-town-mourns-victims-pakistan-train-fire-073839774--spt.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:fire;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">fire<\/a> that ripped through a Tezgam Express train in October 2019, killing 74 people<\/span> (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/6UYF-TC66\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to officials, the fire started when gas cylinders used by some passengers to cook breakfast exploded, sending flames racing through three carriages as the train passed near Rahim Yar Khan, in Punjab province.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Gas cylinders are supposedly banned on trains, and Pakistan&#8217;s then-railways minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said it had been a &#8220;mistake&#8221;
