Estonia has promised to provide Ukraine with further military aid for its defence against the Russian invasion, as the war is set to hit the three-year mark on Monday.<\/p>\n
“We have made a decision with the government to purchase 10,000 artillery shells and send them to Ukraine as quickly as possible,” Prime Minister Kristen Michal said on Saturday evening in a speech at the Estonian National Museum in Tartu.<\/p>\n
“The armed forces will also deliver 750,000 food packages from their own reserves,” he added.<\/p>\n
In addition, Estonia will supply Kiev with military equipment worth \u20ac100 million ($104.6 million) from its own arms industry, Michal said.<\/p>\n
Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur wrote on social media platform X that the delivery will involve “10,000 rounds of 155mm artillery shells.”<\/p>\n
A representative of the ministry had previously handed over a list of products and services from Estonian companies with Ukraine told to choose items for the aid package according to its military needs.<\/p>\n
Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion since February 24, 2022 and is largely dependent on Western military aid.<\/p>\n
EU and NATO member Estonia, which borders Russia, is one of Ukraine’s staunchest supporters.<\/p>\n
“Ukraine can count on Estonia now and in future,” Michal stressed in Tartu, Estonia’s second-largest city that is located less than 50 kilometres west of the Russian border.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
