{"id":44908,"date":"2025-03-02T12:28:19","date_gmt":"2025-03-02T17:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/entertainment\/meet-the-new-owner-of-the-bathtub-used-by-jacob-elordi-in-saltburn\/02\/03\/2025\/"},"modified":"2025-03-02T12:28:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-02T17:28:19","slug":"meet-the-new-owner-of-the-bathtub-used-by-jacob-elordi-in-saltburn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/entertainment\/meet-the-new-owner-of-the-bathtub-used-by-jacob-elordi-in-saltburn\/02\/03\/2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the New Owner of the Bathtub Used by Jacob Elordi in \u201cSaltburn\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-0\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Anyone who has watched \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/11\/16\/movies\/saltburn-review.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Saltburn<\/a>\u201d probably remembers the scene, and some who have not seen the dark coming-of-age thriller about two Oxford students may remember it, too: The part when middle-class Oliver (Barry Keoghan), while visiting the country estate of his wealthy friend Felix (Jacob Elordi), surreptitiously watches him take a bath and then slurps up the leftover water as it streams down the drain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">After the film\u2019s release in late 2023, the scene spread widely online \u2014 and became the inspiration for <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/shopping\/news\/jacob-elordi-saltburn-bath-water-candle-1235859540\/,\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">candles<\/a>, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gaytimes.com\/culture\/saltburn-you-can-now-make-a-cocktail-inspired-by-jacob-elordis-bathwater\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cocktails<\/a>, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/16\/style\/big-hair-bouffant-styles.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">bath bombs<\/a> and thousands of discussion threads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">And the bathtub featured in it? It\u2019s now on display in Massillon, Ohio, at the home of Kyle Harvey, 36, who bought the tub for $4,375 in an online auction last September. Mr. Harvey, who owns a local car dealership with some relatives, drove 18 hours round-trip to get it, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt\u2019s a piece of history,\u201d said Mr. Harvey, adding that he won the prop after a bidding war. \u201cThat bathtub had TikTok going for days.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The fiberglass bathtub is in a room adjoining Mr. Harvey\u2019s at-home movie theater. Other \u201cSaltburn\u201d memorabilia he bought in the auction are also on display there, including a framed photo of Mr. Elordi and Mr. Keoghan and ensembles that the actors wore in the film, which earned awards for both is costume and production design.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The bathtub came complete with stains around its drain \u2014 Suzie Davies, the \u201cSaltburn\u201d production designer, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/saltburn-jacob-elordi-bathtub-scene-details-how-water-was-made-2024-1\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has said<\/a> they were made using edible paint \u2014 as well as with a large rectangle cut out of it. That section was removed after Mr. Elordi was filmed bathing in the tub, so that cameras could capture Mr. Keoghan from the vantage point of being inside it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">When people ask Mr. Harvey what he does with the bathtub, his answer is simple: \u201cI just look at it,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m looking at it right now. Barry Keoghan was right there, it\u2019s so crazy to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">As Mr. Harvey showed off his treasures in a video call, he lamented Mr. Keoghan\u2019s clothing size, which is \u201ctiny,\u201d he said. So far, Mr. Harvey had not managed to find the right size mannequin to fit an embroidered suit that the <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/03\/15\/style\/irish-actors-cillian-murphy-barry-keoghan.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Irish actor<\/a> wore with antlers in a party scene in \u201cSaltburn\u201d \u2014 a costume Mr. Harvey paid $8,125 for.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-3\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI don\u2019t know what I\u2019m going to do,\u201d Mr. Harvey said. Mr. Keoghan \u2014 <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm4422686\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly<\/a> around 5 feet 8 inches \u2014 is shorter than many mannequins, which Mr. Harvey noted were typically 6 feet tall. \u201cTrying to find one that will fit him is kind of a pain,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-4\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr. Harvey\u2019s \u201cSaltburn\u201d pieces are part of a larger collection he has amassed of props and costumes from movies and television shows. He estimated that he had acquired about 200 pieces, and that he had paid about $70,000 for all of them. Though a handful had cost him thousands of dollars, most were bought for hundreds of dollars, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">They include dozens of clothes previously owned by <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/28\/us\/joe-exotic-tiger-king-resentencing.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Joe Exotic<\/a>, the subject of the Netflix documentary series \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/16\/arts\/television\/tiger-king-2.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tiger King<\/a>\u201d; several outfits worn by Lady Gaga in the film \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/23\/movies\/house-of-gucci-review.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">House of Gucci<\/a>\u201d; a mask and two vans from the horror movie \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/23\/movies\/the-black-phone-review.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Black Phone<\/a>\u201d; a horse trailer from \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/18\/movies\/twisters-review-monster.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Twisters<\/a>\u201d; and a diner sign from \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1980\/05\/10\/archives\/film-friday-the-13th-horror-at-middleclass-summer-campthe-cast.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Friday the 13th<\/a>,\u201d one of his favorite horror films.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">He started collecting such ephemera in 2017, after coming across a museum in Blairstown, N.J., dedicated to \u201cFriday the 13th,\u201d which was filmed in the town. (The museum has since closed.) Inspired, Mr. Harvey acquired a \u201cFriday the 13th\u201d script. It was the first item in his collection and he paid $3,500 for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">His love of horror films in particular stretches back to when he was young. \u201cMy grandma and I would make cinnamon rolls, and I would make her watch horror movies,\u201d Mr. Harvey said. \u201cThat was our thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-5\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">He said he had passed on his fondness for props and costumes to his 13-year-old daughter, Kasey: She convinced him to buy her some items from the reality TV show \u201cDance Moms,\u201d including clothes and a chalkboard used by the instructor <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/09\/03\/arts\/dance\/dance-competitions-for-youngsters.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Abby Lee Miller<\/a>, in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr. Harvey is part of a global community of passionate collectors who scour online forums, Facebook groups and auctions in search of objects from their favorite movies. Unlike the big-ticket items that attract publicity \u2014 ruby slippers from \u201cThe Wizard of Oz\u201d (which <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/07\/us\/wizard-oz-garland-ruby-slippers-auction.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">sold for<\/a> $28 million last December), or a door from \u201cTitanic\u201d (which <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/03\/26\/arts\/planet-hollywood-auction-titanic.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">sold for<\/a> $718,750 last March) \u2014 the props and costumes they\u2019re after can be purchased at a much lower cost. The internet has made their hunting and trading easier than ever before.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-6\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIn the old days, pre-1990s, if you collected something, like cars, you\u2019d go to car meets, different clubs,\u201d said John Klisavage, 71, a former merchant marine officer who collects costumes. \u201cToday, it\u2019s so much more prolific.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr. Klisavage, who owns a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/washingtonstreetbooksandmusic.com\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bookstore<\/a> in Havre de Grace, Md., estimated that, since 2003, he had bought at least 1,600 film costumes \u2014 and possibly as many as 3,000. (He said he had lost count). His purchases include several dresses worn by Jennifer Hudson in \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/12\/15\/movies\/15drea.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dreamgirls<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/08\/12\/movies\/respect-review-aretha-franklin.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Respect<\/a>,\u201d a biopic about <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/08\/16\/obituaries\/aretha-franklin-dead.html\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Aretha Franklin<\/a>, for which he paid around $65,000 in total.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr. Harvey said collecting allowed him to claim a piece of Hollywood. His ultimate wish, he added, is not to acquire any single item, but to spend a day or two on a film set.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-7\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI\u2019ll even help out,\u201d he said. \u201cYou need me to get Starbucks? I\u2019ll get Starbucks. I want to experience filming the movie, how it\u2019s made. That would be my dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">He discovered \u201cSaltburn\u201d through TikTok, and loved it immediately. He watched the movie about a dozen times to decide which props and costumes he wanted to buy in the online sale held by <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/vipfanauctions.com\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">VIP Fan Auctions<\/a>, one of the major players in the prop- and costume-auction business (others include <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ha.com\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Heritage Auctions<\/a> and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/propstoreauction.com\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prop Store Auction<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">When the bathtub scene went viral, people posted videos of their parents\u2019 reactions to it on social media.
