Barnum, is being adapted for the stage by Disney Theatrical Group and will have <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/thegreatestshowman.com\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an initial production<\/a> in early 2026 in Bristol, England.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The project is Disney\u2019s first stage adaptation of a 20th Century Fox film since the Walt Disney Company <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/03\/20\/business\/media\/walt-disney-21st-century-fox-deal.html?smid=url-share\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">acquired Fox\u2019s assets<\/a> in 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The musical has a credentialed creative team. The songs \u2014 a combination of those featured in the film and new ones written for the stage \u2014 are by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind \u201cDear Evan Hansen\u201d who last year <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/article\/egot-winners-history.html?smid=url-share\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">became EGOT winners<\/a> \u2014 meaning they have won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The director and choreographer is Casey Nicholaw, a prolific Broadway theatermaker who won Tony Awards for directing \u201cThe Book of Mormon\u201d and for choreographing \u201cSome Like It Hot.\u201d Nicholaw has become a favorite Disney collaborator \u2014 he also directed and choreographed the long-running \u201cAladdin\u201d as well as the company\u2019s most recent show, \u201cHercules,\u201d which will have <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.herculesthemusical.co.uk\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a West End production<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The book is by <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/09\/arts\/television\/high-school-musical-series-finale-tim-federle.html?smid=url-share\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tim Federle<\/a>, best known for television\u2019s \u201cHigh School Musical: The Musical: The Series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The film had a starry cast, led by Hugh Jackman; the stage musical does not yet have a cast, and Disney said it would hold open auditions in Britain and Ireland.
