Following a report in The New York Times<\/a> about a White House meeting where Elon Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had clashed in front of President Trump, it was up to \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d to imagine how they might make peace \u2014 and to let us listen in on their inner monologues.<\/p>\n This week\u2019s \u201cS.N.L.\u201d broadcast, for which Lady Gaga was both the host and the musical guest, began with a voice-over that described the conflict between Musk and Rubio as a stain on \u201can otherwise remarkably cool and smooth start to the Trump presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n Inside the Oval Office stood James Austin Johnson, in his recurring role as President Trump, and Marcello Hern\u00e1ndez, playing Rubio.<\/p>\n Johnson said he forgave Hern\u00e1ndez for \u201cbeing under a lot of stress,\u201d but told him, \u201cI need you to be my good little Marco.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIf you think I\u2019m going to stand here and let you call me that,\u201d Hern\u00e1ndez replied, \u201cyou\u2019re right.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson added, \u201cUnfortunately, I just made English the official language. So now your name is Mark Ruby.\u201d<\/p>\n Hern\u00e1ndez said he objected to Musk \u201chaving total access to our government,\u201d but Johnson praised the billionaire for his management of SpaceX, which he said was \u201cdoing incredible things in terms of explosions, and with regard to rocket debris.\u201d<\/p>\n When Hern\u00e1ndez said that a businessman shouldn\u2019t necessarily be running the country, Johnson answered, \u201cYou\u2019re right. We tried that in 2016 it didn\u2019t work. Trump 45, not a great president. But now we\u2019ve got Trump 47. I\u2019m older, wiser and frankly, older.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson went on to tell Hern\u00e1ndez he was doing a great job. \u201cYou\u2019re the goat,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cYou\u2019re the scapegoat. But it\u2019s still a type of goat.\u201d<\/p>\n Hern\u00e1ndez said that he was close to striking a deal with the Panamanian government to regain control of the Panama Canal, but Johnson said he didn\u2019t want it anymore. \u201cWhat I\u2019d really love is Thailand,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n While he continued to ramble on about \u201cThe White Lotus,\u201d the camera zoomed in on Hern\u00e1ndez, letting us hear inside his head, where the theme to \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm\u201d was playing.<\/p>\n In return, Hern\u00e1ndez spoke about American foreign policy, while the camera zoomed in on a bored Johnson, allowing us to hear him think to himself: \u201cWhat is this?\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m thinking something and not saying it out loud.\u201d He added: \u201cI should do this more often. I won\u2019t, but I should.\u201d<\/p>\n They were joined by Mike Myers, the \u201cS.N.L.\u201d alum, reprising his role as Musk, who variously tented his fingers and ran in place.
