The video has in fact circulated in posts and reports about the &#8220;brutality&#8221; police employed in breaking up protests against the demolition of homes in Sindh province in November 2022.<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;This injustice is being done to the students of Jamia Hafsa, Lal Masjid,&#8221; reads the Urdu-language caption to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/dde1eec9-942d-4e6d-89f8-595475c977d4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Facebook video;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Facebook video<\/a> shared on February 27, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Viewed over 146,000 times, the video shows police officers shoving, beating and hauling hijab-wearing women into a police van.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"relative mb-4\">\n<div class=\"relative\"><button aria-label=\"View larger image\" class=\"group absolute bottom-3 right-3 size-10 md:size-[50px] lg:inset-0 lg:size-full lg:bg-transparent\" data-ylk=\"elm:expand;itc:1;sec:image-lightbox;slk:lightbox-open;\"><span class=\"absolute bottom-0 right-0 rounded-full bg-white p-3 opacity-100 shadow-elevation-3 transition-opacity duration-300 group-hover:block group-hover:opacity-100 md:p-[17px] lg:bottom-6 lg:right-6 lg:bg-white\/90 lg:p-5 lg:opacity-0 lg:shadow-none\"><svg viewbox=\"0 0 22 22\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"size-4 lg:size-6\" width=\"22\" height=\"22\"><path d=\"M12.372.92c0-.506.41-.916.915-.916L21 0l-.004 7.712a.917.917 0 0 1-1.832 0V3.183l-6.827 6.828-1.349-1.348 6.828-6.828h-4.529a.915.915 0 0 1-.915-.915M1.835 17.816l6.828-6.828 1.349 1.349-6.829 6.827h4.529a.915.915 0 0 1 0 1.831L0 21l.004-7.713a.916.916 0 0 1 1.831 0z\"\/><\/svg><\/span><\/button><dialog aria-label=\"Modal Dialog\" aria-modal=\"true\" class=\"fixed inset-0 z-4 size-full max-h-none max-w-none bg-white hidden\"\/><\/div><figcaption class=\"relative text-sm mt-1 pr-2.5\">\n<p><span>Screenshot of the false post, taken on March 7, 2025<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Similar <a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/a536dfec-a6f8-4921-add2-6c85c708370d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:videos;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">videos<\/a> were <a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/82f0fea5-e602-463f-ace4-0f69f8556154\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:shared;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">shared<\/a> hundreds of times elsewhere on <span><a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/714b019b-57e2-4789-8f55-121d4b091079\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Facebook;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Facebook<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The posts surfaced as female students from the Jamia Hafsa seminary, connected to the Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) in Islamabad, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1893545\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:staged protest sit-ins;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">staged protest sit-ins<\/a> in the Pakistan capital that blocked traffic following the arrest of their principal Ume Hassan on February 19 (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250307072036\/https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1893545\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><span>Hassan, the wife of\u00a0the Red Mosque&#8217;s radical cleric Abdul Aziz<\/span>, was arrested for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1893297\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:armed attack;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">armed attack<\/a> on police and government staff (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/J2Q9-3PFG\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As tensions simmered following Hassan&#8217;s arrest, more than 150 police officers enforced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gZHYz2I_c08\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:blockade;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">blockade<\/a> on the roads around the Red Mosque &#8212; the scene of a bloody week-long siege in July 2007 that left more than 100 dead as the military sought to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/1518337\/pakistans-contradictory-crackdown-red-mosque-extremism\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:pacify the mosque;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">pacify the mosque<\/a> and arrest its leaders (archived <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/MM8B-YMDB\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/4AMK-CR9L\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The footage circulating online, however, does not show police beating and arresting Jamia Hafsa students.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\">Mujahid colony protest<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The police officers in the falsely shared footage are wearing vests labelled &#8220;Sindh Police&#8221;, and their uniforms correspond to those seen in an <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/4JWS-MQVP\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:AFP photograph;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">AFP photograph<\/a> taken in November 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A combination of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pVAKQqO2BE4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:keyword;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">keyword<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=linGPlWGcDw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:reverse image searches;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">reverse image searches<\/a> led to the same footage posted by Pakistani politicians <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mjdawar\/status\/1594727588488003586\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mohsin Dawar;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Mohsin Dawar<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/QasimKhanSuri\/status\/1594732796337061888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1594732796337061888%7Ctwgr%5Ef839a4fee037032e22566659dc92040cb0ebcf08%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.globalvillagespace.com%2Fvideo-of-sindh-police-torture-on-female-mujahid-colony-protestors-sparks-outrage%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Qasim Khan Suri;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Qasim Khan Suri<\/a> and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SochVideos\/videos\/811837539903078\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:report;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">report<\/a> from local outlet Soch published in <span>November 2022<\/span> (archived <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/J5JN-VLMA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/KFR3-TP9X\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">here<\/a>\u00a0and <span><a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/02d0fd4f-5301-4ba8-9a71-65f588abd463\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:here;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">here<\/a>)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The brutality with which the police in Karachi attacked women protesting against the demolition of their homes in Mujahid Colony is shameful,&#8221;
