There has been no shortage of movies about the Beatles. But the director Sam Mendes is embarking on a project that stands apart for its ambition \u2014 four films, each from a different band member\u2019s perspective \u2014 and now we know who will be playing the Fab Four.<\/p>\n
The films will star Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, according to Mr. Mendes\u2019s production company<\/a>.<\/p>\n The four films, which will tell the story of one of the world\u2019s most influential and adored bands, will be released together in April 2028, \u201ccreating the first bingeable theatrical experience,\u201d the company wrote. <\/p>\n In announcing the films last year, Mr. Mendes, the British director best known for films like \u201cAmerican Beauty\u201d (1999) and \u201cRevolutionary Road\u201d (2008), said<\/a> he was \u201chonored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n He announced the cast at the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. <\/p>\n While the Beatles have been big-screen subjects before \u2014 including in Danny Boyle\u2019s \u201cYesterday<\/a>\u201d (2019) and Sam Taylor-Johnson\u2019s \u201cNowhere Boy<\/a>\u201d (2009) \u2014 this is the first time that the members of the band and their estates have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film, according to Sony Pictures.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a look at who will be playing the Fab Four:<\/p>\n Paul Mescal\u2019s profile skyrocketed last summer when the 29-year-old starred in Ridley Scott\u2019s historical epic \u201cGladiator II<\/a>.\u201d That followed acclaimed performances in the romantic drama \u201cAll of Us Strangers<\/a>,\u201d and the father-daughter story \u201cAftersun<\/a>,\u201d which earned him an Oscar nomination in 2023 for best actor. <\/p>\n But it was his first television role, as Connell in Hulu\u2019s 2020 TV series \u201cNormal People<\/a>,\u201d that catapulted the Irish actor to fame and turned him into a sex symbol<\/a>. He is currently starring in as Stanley in \u201cA Streetcar Named Desire<\/a>\u201d at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and will play William Shakespeare in an upcoming movie adaptation of Maggie O\u2019Farrell\u2019s novel \u201cHamnet.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The British actor Harris Dickinson, 28, broke out in the 2017 independent film \u201cBeach Rats<\/a>,\u201d in which he played a young man grappling with his sexuality. He later had starring roles in the historical drama \u201cThe King\u2019s Man<\/a>,\u201d the murder mystery \u201cWhere the Crawdads Sing<\/a>,\u201d and the dark comedy \u201cTriangle of Sadness<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n Dickinson\u2019s fame reached new levels with his performance in \u201cBabygirl<\/a>\u201d in 2024.
