The footage is from January, when he addressed the country&#8217;s security forces during a leadership event, and does not include any such threat.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;President Prabowo is <span>pro-people!! <\/span>President Prabowo (delivers) his comment after the passing of the Military Law, and he warns the Military (that they) will be eliminated if they make the people suffer,&#8221; reads Indonesian-language text over a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/E473-79E5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:TikTok post;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">TikTok post<\/a> uploaded March 22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The video, viewed more than 900,000 times, shows Prabowo giving a speech in front of the nation\u2019s military and police leaders.\u00a0He says they should serve the people because their funding and resources come from them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The people (are the ones) who equip you from head to toe, the people feed the army and police, and the people give the army and police the power to hold the monopoly on weapons,&#8221; role in civilian affairs (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/CJ7M-KE7W\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><span>The revision, pushed mainly by Prabowo&#8217;s coalition, aimed to expand the military&#8217;s role beyond defence in a country long influenced by its powerful armed forces. <\/span><span>The amendment sparked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20250327-water-cannon-break-up-indonesia-military-law-protests\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:protests;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">protests<\/a> and fears of a return to the era of late dictator Suharto, whom ex-general Prabowo once served and who used military figures to crack down on dissent (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250329024716\/https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20250327-water-cannon-break-up-indonesia-military-law-protests\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">However, the video circulating online is unrelated to the newly amended law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/factcheck.afp.com\/how-do-reverse-image-search\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:reverse image search;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">reverse image search<\/a> on Google led to a longer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CC6WjideZv0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:video;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">video<\/a> uploaded January 30 to the official YouTube account of the <span>presidential <\/span>secretariat (<a href=\"https:\/\/perma.cc\/S3PP-HKJA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:archived link;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">archived link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;President Prabowo Gives Direction at the 2025 Indonesian Military and Police Leadership Meeting, Jakarta, January 30, 2025,&#8221;
