No injuries or damages have been reported.<\/p>\n In a post on X, Barrot said:<\/a> \u201cThis is unacceptable,\u201d adding and that the Israeli ambassador “will be summoned” to provide an explanation.<\/p>\n Antonio Tajani, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that he has instructed the Israeli ambassador<\/a> be summoned to Rome in order to \u201cobtain official clarification\u201d regarding the gunshots.<\/p>\n The diplomats were part of a regional and European delegation visiting the town of Jenin on Wednesday, May 21. In a statement,<\/a> Israel\u2019s Foreign Ministry said that \u201cwarning shots\u201d were fired as the diplomats had “deviated from the approved route” during their visit, adding that it “regrets the inconvenience caused.”<\/p>\n Kaja Kallas, the E.U. High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said \u201cany threats on diplomats\u2019 lives are unacceptable,\u201d and that those responsible for the incident should be held accountable during a press conference on Wednesday.<\/a><\/p>\n Ireland\u2019s T\u00e1naiste (Deputy Prime Minister) Simon Harris said that he was \u201cshocked and appalled\u201d by the incident, explaining that two Irish diplomats were with the group. \u201cThis is completely unacceptable and I condemn it in the strongest terms,\u201d Harris said via social media.<\/a><\/p>\n Echoing this, Germany\u2019s Foreign Ministry has \u201cstrongly\u201d condemned the warning shots, calling the incident \u201cunprovoked,\u201d in a statement on X<\/a>, while Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Pr\u00e9vot has said that his country \u201cdemands convincing explanations from Israel<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also rebuked<\/a> the incident, saying: “This is a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and a crime that contravenes all diplomatic norms.” The Ministry said it \u201cdenies the narrative\u201d told by Israeli forces.<\/a><\/p>\n A Times of Israel reporter has shared a video seemingly showing the incident<\/a>, in which shots can be heard and soldiers can be seen in the distance.<\/p>\n Read More<\/strong>: Former Israeli PM Says Country\u2019s Action in Gaza is \u2018Close to a War Crime,\u2019 as U.N. In February, Israeli tanks entered Jenin<\/a> for the first time since 2002.
