The Iranian photographer took it in 2019 at a religious ceremony in the village of Masuleh, part of a historic city in the northern province of\u00a0Gilan, Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cOn the sixth day of\u00a0Muharram \u2013 the first month of the Islamic calendar \u2013 Shia Muslims mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in a\u00a0ritual called Alam Bandan,\u201d says Hamrang. \u201cIt\u2019s held in a 1,200-year-old shrine. Documenting such moments through photography is my way\u00a0of contributing to\u00a0preserving them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He adds: \u201cI also love\u00a0this picture because\u00a0it wasn\u2019t captured by chance.
