It is close to where the Caral civilization, the oldest in the Americas, developed 5,000 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Caral, comprised of 32 monumental structures, is considered a contemporary of civilizations in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/egypt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Egypt;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Egypt<\/a>, India, Sumeria and China. (credit: Paisajes Arqueologicos de Panamarca &#8211; Lisa Trever\/Handout via REUTERS)<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;They were situated in a strategic location for trade, for exchange with societies from the coast, the highlands and the jungle,&#8221; Shady said.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\">The continuation of the Caral society<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Archaeologist Marco Machacuay, a researcher with the Ministry of Culture, said at a news conference that Pe\u00f1ico&#8217;s importance lies in it being the continuation of the Caral society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After eight years of studies, researchers have identified up to 18 structures in Penico, including ceremonial temples and residential complexes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The walls of a central plaza stand out for their sculptural reliefs and depictions of the pututu, a conch shell trumpet whose sound carries over long distances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In other buildings, researchers found clay sculptures of human and animal figures, ceremonial objects and necklaces made from beads and seashells, they added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Peru is a center of ancient cultures and home to archaeological sites such as the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu in Cusco and the mysterious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/archaeology\/archaeology-around-the-world\/article-830760\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Nazca lines;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Nazca lines<\/a> located in the desert region along the country&#8217;s central coast.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/archaeologists-peru-unveil-3-500-023551614.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Archaeologists unveil Pe&ntilde;ico, a city that thrived 3,500 years ago, linking Pacific coast cultures with those in the Amazon.
