for Israel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with former MK <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/gadi-eisenkot\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Gadi Eisenkot;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Gadi Eisenkot<\/a> on Sunday to discuss creating a new leadership in Israel, among other topics related to the country, the two announced after the meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The meeting was part of a coordinated preparation plan for replacing the government, the joint statement said, adding that it follows several meetings the two have held in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The meeting also marks another one-on-one meeting to discuss the creation of a new government with Zionist opposition heads before the elections, which are currently scheduled for October 2026.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\">Discussing Israel&#8217;s national standing<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Eisenkot and Bennett shared that they had discussed the \u201cdeterioration of Israel\u2019s international standing, and actions toward creating a new and better leadership for Israel, one that will unite the people, strengthen security, and rebuild the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They also said that they had discussed the ongoing war and \u201cthe urgency of bringing back the hostages.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In further one-on-one meetings between opposition party leaders ahead of the elections, Eisenkot met with Yisrael Beytenu head Avigdor Liberman on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Eisenkot and Liberman said they had discussed further coordination between the Zionist opposition parties, along with the formation of shared guiding principles that would serve as \u201ca cohesive, responsible, and values-driven governing alternative, one that would lead Israel and replace the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/state-comptroller-releases-fourth-october-110030071.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:October 7 government;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">October 7 government<\/a>.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Liberman also met with Bennett at the end of August, where the two discussed replacing the government &#8220;as soon as possible in order to fix Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Liberman requested a meeting to formulate \u201cguiding principles\u201d for the next government with heads of Zionist opposition parties, along with former Eisenkot and Bennett, at the end of August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">His request was sent to Opposition Leader Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) in an official letter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Liberman requested that the meeting be held \u201cas soon as possible\u201d to allow for the formulation of the guiding principles, which \u201cmust reflect broad agreements on the central issues on the national agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Among the issues listed by Liberman to be discussed were security, economy, the establishment of a constitution, military service in the country, and the separation of religion and state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt is up to us to work together and create a shared foundation for action,\u201d he wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Lapid held a press conference last week where he said that if Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/benjamin-netanyahu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Benjamin Netanyahu;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>\u2019s coalition were to win the elections again, \u201cit would be the end of Zionism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The opposition leader went on to say that the coming elections \u201cwould not be easy this time either. Everyone will be involved \u2013 Bennett, Liberman, and Eisenkot.
