Above is previous coverage of the USS Mahan\u2019s return to Naval Station Norfolk from 2021<\/em><\/p>\n PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) \u2013 The USS Mahan, a guided-missile destroyer from the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, arrived in Norway for a scheduled port visit on Thursday, Sept. 11.<\/p>\n This visit comes after the conclusion of a joint operation in the Barents Sea above the Arctic Circle between the Mahan and allies from Norway, Germany, and France.<\/p>\n \u201cMy crew and I are so thankful for our opportunity to operate above the Arctic Circle,\u201d said Benjamin Mattes, commanding officer of Mahan. \u201cWe are excited to visit Bergen, and we thank our Norwegian Ally for welcoming us with open arms.\u201d<\/p>\n Prior to the Arctic operations, the Mahan participated in the Neptune Strike 25-2 training with NATO allies, an exercise that took place in the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Gerald R.
