Hamas lauded the recognition of a Palestinian state<\/a> by the United Kingdom, Canada, Portugal, and Australia in a Sunday statement, calling the move \u201can important step.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis recognition is an important step in maintaining the right of our Palestinian people to their land and holy sites, and to establishing their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,\u201d Hamas<\/a> stated.<\/p>\n The terror organization continued, saying it was \u201ca deserved outcome of our people\u2019s struggle\u201d and that a stop to Israel\u2019s war against it, which it labeled a \u201cbrutal genocide\u201d in Gaza, must follow the declaration.<\/p>\n Hamas<\/a> also called on the international community to \u201cconfront the annexation<\/a> and Judaization plans in the West Bank and Jerusalem,\u201d isolate the Jewish state, and take \u201cpunitive measures\u201d against it.<\/p>\n
