{"id":53350,"date":"2025-10-15T16:25:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T20:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/world\/tens-of-thousands-in-spain-strike-to-protest-israels-military-action\/15\/10\/2025\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T16:25:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T20:25:13","slug":"tens-of-thousands-in-spain-strike-to-protest-israels-military-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/world\/tens-of-thousands-in-spain-strike-to-protest-israels-military-action\/15\/10\/2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Tens of thousands in Spain strike to protest Israel&#8217;s military action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div data-article-body=\"true\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Five days after the start of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, tens of thousands of people in Spain took part in a strike on Wednesday to protest Israel&#8217;s military action in the coastal territory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Trade unions called on people to stop work for two hours at a time in the morning, around lunchtime and in the evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Besides slight delays to local transport and short interruptions to television broadcasts, there were no major reports of disruption to public life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Demonstrations were held in large cities including Madrid, Bilbao and Barcelona, each of which counting several thousand participants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In Barcelona, broadcaster RTVE reported that protesters clashed with police, with officers using pepper stray against people who tried to enter a train station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Some demonstrators threw bottles at the police, according to the newspaper La Vanguardia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Demonstrators also set fire to some of the large plastic containers for household waste that can be found on almost every corner in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Spain is one of the European Union&#8217;s harshest critics of Israel&#8217;s military action in the Gaza Strip.
