SOUTHAVEN, Miss. \u2014 A Southaven grocery store stayed open on Saturday as the winter storm hit the Mid-South.<\/p>\n

Mark Gatlin, the manager of the South Point\u00a0Grocery in Silo Square in\u00a0Southaven, isn\u2019t just talking about the winter storm that hit Saturday morning; he\u2019s talking about the rush of customers that arctic winds blew through the door after he decided to open up.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been unreal. It has been a frenzy,\u201d said Mark Gatlin, manager of South Point Grocery at Silo Square. \u201cA lot of\u00a0customers, a lot of excitement, a lot of anticipation, and actually\u00a0it\u2019s been fairly fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

    South Point has been opened about two and a half months, and\u00a0Gatlin\u00a0says the grocery was more than up to the challenge.<\/p>\n

    \u201cThe store\u2019s ready, we\u2019ve got milk, we\u2019ve got\u00a0bread, we\u2019ve got eggs, we\u2019ve got meat, we\u2019ve got produce, the store is stocked. The employees are happy, and we\u2019re happy to help the community,\u201d said Gatlin.<\/p>\n

    New grocery to open in Southaven\u2019s Silo Square <\/a><\/p>\n

    Southaven resident Beth\u00a0Allen and her family braved the icy roads out of a birthday emergency.<\/p>\n

    Because my\u00a0son\u2019s\u00a020th\u00a0birthday is tomorrow and he wanted red beans and rice and I did not buy the stuff for it,\u201d said Beth Allen, grocery shopper.<\/p>\n

    \u201cEver since we first started coming here like they are great, they\u2019re always stocked, and it\u2019s always nice in here and everybody\u2019s so friendly,\u201d said Allen.<\/p>\n

    Another birthday emergency brought the Franklin family to the grocery store Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

    \u201cBecause my sister, she wants to make some pizza. So we went outside and tried to look for some pizza, because it\u2019s also her birthday,\u201d said Salayla Frankiln, shopping with family. \u201cIt was crazy, it\u2019s very snowy out there. I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s like a lot, it\u2019s ice.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Mark Gatlin says deciding to open during the storm was easy.<\/p>\n

    \u201cIt\u2019s good for the store, and it\u2019s good for the community. It gives the shoppers a place to go when they wouldn\u2019t have a place to go,\u201d said Gatlin.<\/p>\n

    Gatlin said he plans to open South Point Grocery in Southaven on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
