Giampaolo Dallara had a slightly different Covid-19 lockdown hobby than the rest of us.<\/p>\n
The famed auto designer\u2014who cut his teeth at Ferrari<\/a>, Maserati<\/a>, and Lamborghini <\/a>as well as crafting F1 cars for De Tomaso\u2014and his team of designers created a bonkers one-off single-seater during the pandemic shutdown in Italy. And now the ultra-rare car is headed to auction in April, when it is expected to fetch over $800,000 (\u20ac700,000) when it goes under the hammer at RM Sotheby\u2019s<\/a>. This wild ride happens to be street-legal, too.<\/p>\n More from Robb Report<\/strong><\/p>\n The MPS \u2018Macchina Posto Singolo\u2019 takes design cues from the first sportscar ever made by Dallara\u2019s namesake brand, Dallara Automobili. Like the SP1000, this new model offers up just a single seat for a true track-like experience, along with a similar bright-white carbon-fiber exterior; the front of the car, though, has been reduced in size for increased aerodynamics. The car\u2019s curved, sculpted lines, meanwhile, were brought to life with the help of designer Andrea Guerri.<\/p>\n The Monoposto, as the one-off is known within among the Dallara team, was also inspired by the Stradale, the brand\u2019s homologated road car. The new model has the same steering wheel and mechanical parking brake as its predecessor, according to Motor1.com<\/a>. Under the hood, it gets its power from a Ford-derived 2.3-liter turbocharged engine (which has an output of around 400 hp) that\u2019s mated to a six-speed automated manual transmission. In terms of speed, the Stradale, which weighs about 1,880 pounds, can go from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of about 174 mph.<\/p>\n For the unversed, Dallara Automobili has been making its cars since 1972, though the Stradale is a more recent addition to its lineup. The idea for the model began back in 2015, with Italy-based firm Granstudio lending a hand to bringing a car to life that was focused on aerodynamic precision. Now, with this one-off, that design can become an exclusive collector\u2019s item in your garage.<\/p>\n Bidding for the one-off will take place on April 2 with no reserve, with proceeds from the sale going to the Caterina Dallara Foundation, Dallara\u2019s nonprofit that focuses on the social and cultural development of Dallara\u2019s home region of Val Ceno, in memory of his daughter who died in 2007.<\/p>\n
