The Defense Ministry on Thursday reported that 170 people had been recognized as fallen members of the Israeli military<\/a> over the past year.<\/p>\n Additionally, 54 others were recognized as disabled due to their role as members of the Israeli security forces, including the IDF.<\/p>\n These figures are announced on an annual basis shortly before Remembrance Day<\/a>, which, this year, begins on Monday night and lasts until Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n However, at least two soldiers have fallen in southern Lebanon since the ministry’s announcement.<\/p>\n Command Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Barak Kalfon<\/a> was killed on Friday, and Sgt. First Class (res.) Lidor Porat’s<\/a> death was announced on Sunday.<\/p>\n The Defense Ministry also provided statistics since 1860, when counting the fallen soldiers began.<\/p>\n According to the ministry, 25,644 soldiers have fallen since 1860.<\/p>\n This has resulted in there being 59,583 bereaved families in Israel as of April 2026.
