TOKYO, May 14 (Reuters) – Japan’s government is looking at compiling a \u200csupplementary budget to reduce the burden \u200con households from rising fuel bills, Kyodo \u200bnews agency reported on Thursday, a move that would put pressure on the country’s strained finances.<\/p>\n
A supplementary budget for \u200cthe current fiscal \u2060year would support households that are likely to be hit \u2060by elevated gasoline prices and utility bills during the peak-temperature summer season, \u200bKyodo said, \u200bciting a \u200bfew unnamed government \u200csources.<\/p>\n
The yield on the 30- and 40-year Japanese government bonds rose after the report was released as investors braced for increased debt issuance to fund \u200cthe extra budget.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister \u200bSanae Takaichi has repeatedly \u200bdownplayed the \u200bchances of compiling an \u200cextra budget with the view \u200bthat \u200bthe government has sufficient funds to pay for current fuel subsidies.<\/p>\n
